Man who found missing Minnesota girl gives $7G reward to her

FOX:

A Minnesota farmer was presented with a $7,000 reward for finding a missing teenage girl — and then just moments later gave the money to the girl, who was a captive of three men for a month.

Earl Melchert, who found missing teenage girl, meets with Alexandria Police Chief Rik Wyffels. (Alexandria Police Department)

Earl Melchert, 65, of Barrett, turned the reward money over to the  girl Friday at police headquarters.

“Today we witnessed an incredible example of kindness,” Alexandria Police Chief Rick Wyffels said on Facebook.

The 15-year-old girl was abducted from her home on Aug. 8 in Alexandria, Minn., and taken to an abandoned house where she was physically and sexually assaulted.

Fox News does not name alleged victims of sexual assault without their consent.

Fox 9 Minneapolis reported that the girl escaped Sept. 5 by swimming across a lake. Melchert found her when she came running toward him.

  1. I would hope most people would do the same. She made her own escape and he just happened to be in the right place. Good for him for being a decent man. I wouldn’t take money from a family who just endured that I presume he saw it the same way.

  2. charges included “criminal sexual conduct”

What the hell is this?! It sounds so tame, not at all like the simple word “rape.” Is this another example of someone trying to tamp down the charges in order to protect an illegal?

And this: suspects include a friend of the family. Dear God! This happens so frequently, I don’t know how a family can trust any so-called “friends of the family.” It’s hard to raise kids who aren’t fearful when there are so many out there stalking them.

  3. I’d love to see the three savages that abducted this poor girl be subjected to the Irony Curtain Voluntary Death Penalty. Yes, because I am compassionate towards the animals, I’d let THEM choose to be executed or not. Totally up to them. Freedom of choice.
Oh, did I mention that they’d be subjected to 24/7 non-stop medieval torture until they begged to be eliminated?

  4. This is what the world needs more of.

    And

I’ll hold them for you, Irony. They won’t get loose. I’ll take your sleep shift and get refreshments in the mean time.

  5. AA, It is unfortunate that those that have the most access are the ones most likely to do the dirty deeds. Family has the most access.

I found this out the hard way. Even with only having sons, I found an uncle of theirs untrustworthy in this matter. That’s putting it in “safe for work” language, mind you.

One of their uncles (a BiL) committed suicide over the matter and another that lives up north stays alive from sheer distance alone. If he was near, “accidents” would have happened by now.

My wife had two uncles that sexually abused her as a small child. If I had known that at the beginning, it would have made a world of difference. As far as I’m concerned, it runs in the family when it runs at all. My experience, at least.

A subject that gets my dander up.

  6. Dad of 4 — So awful when it is a person or persons a child is encouraged to be affectionate with and to trust. I hope there is a very special place in hell or such persons. God said that you should be wishing for an anchor around your neck and sunk to the bottom of the ocean than to abuse a child.
