PJM: West Virginia—itself a product of intrastate secession during the Civil War—could gain three new counties currently part of western Maryland on the off chance that lawmakers in both states agree.
Six Republican lawmakers from Maryland’s three westernmost counties—Garrett, Allegany, and Washington—wrote to Republican legislative leaders in West Virginia earlier this month with a request that they “advise on [the] next steps” to join The Mountain State.
“We believe this arrangement may be mutually beneficial for both states and for our local constituencies.”
Western Maryland is much more rural and conservative than the rest of the state, which is dominated by the deep blue Baltimore metro area and its resident federal government employees and lobbyists.
“We wouldn’t be doing this if we didn’t feel there is a strong sense of unrest and unhappiness among people in our rural area of the state,” said Wendell Beitzel, a Western Maryland delegate and cosigner of the letter. more
The western part of Maryland, as well as Virginia, is very conservative. Always disenfranchised by the beltway counties.
Nice to think something like this could happen but if it helps conservatives the right in any way forget it. Someone will go crying to Merrick Garland how it’s racist and they feel disenfranchised. Speaking of which the putz’s at the national school board association have apologized for the letter to garland calling parents “domestic terrorists”. “We misspoke” they said. Too much heat put on them I guess. Arsewipes.

Which is exactly the point. Every form of oppression will be used against you, including disenfranchisement. We will continue to take your money for our preferred classes and grind you into the dirt you farm as you will not be allowed a voice to complain or any representation we don’t own.
Your laughable attempt is denied.
And you will be punished for trying.
There are plenty of counties all along the Shenandoah Valley that would join this exodus.
If the change would alter the rep count in the House, it will never get off the ground.
West Virginia isn’t conservative.
West Virginia is only “conservative” when compared to Virginia, Maryland, or DC.
Sorta like calling the Mensheviks “conservative.”
But, good luck to them, anyway – any blow against Maryland is a blow for freedom.
izlamo delenda est …
This would like East Germans trying to scale the wall into West Berlin. Maryland will never let you go voluntarily.
Hey, Democrats hoping to someday become Maryland’s next governor. You sure would have an easier path to election if those three red counties were in a different state instead of In Maryland and voting for your opponent.
Just sayin’…

Nah, not a factor. Democrats get 3/5ths minimum of every vote there anyway.
I see to it.
The only question is WHICH Democrat will be appointed over you for me to *giggle* “count votes for”.
No worries, I’ll be jussst as fair as I was when I picked your president…
Down state MD wouldn’t miss Mountain MD, except for federal road money, maybe. Every notice how Blue districts always gripe about Red regions taking more federal money then they contribute, until folks start talking about secession. Now why do you think that is?
The problem with these ideas, as good as they are, is that as the blue states become less and less livable, the leftists will eventually migrate to the red states, without changing their voting patterns.
If they do join WV it would mean a clean path all the way to Texas for me in regard to concealed carry reciprocity. Maryland is a pseudo communist state.
