McCain’s record in Congress: Not great

American Thinker:

During his thirty years in Congress as a representative and senator, John McCain sponsored about 773 bills.  Seventeen were passed into law.  The most notable bills he sponsored are the Climate Stewardship Act, with Joe Lieberman, which failed to pass; the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, also known as McCain-Feingold; and the Detainee Treatment Act.  Both of the last two passed.

George W. Bush believed that parts of McCain-Feingold, which restricted free speech, was unconstitutional, but he signed it, saying the Supreme Court would resolve the issues.

Bush did not uphold his duty to protect the Constitution.

The Supreme Court in Citizens United v. FEC found key parts of McCain-Feingold unconstitutional because it restricts free speech.

McCain’s other accomplishments as a “maverick” are that he voted against the Bush 2001 and 2003 tax cuts and voted against the Trump repeal of Obamacare.

McCain also was a sponsor with Ted Kennedy of the 2007 McCain-Kennedy “Comprehensive Immigration Bill,” which failed to pass after the Republican base revolted against itMORE

  1. Pretty much what you’d expect from a bullshitter.

I’ve no room to talk, but the guy was pure, unadulterated bullshit; from conception to expiration – with deception in between.

Oh, well … may God have mercy on his soul.

    izlamo delenda est …

  2. Aaaaaaaaaannnnnnnd now we know why McCain turned to a life in politics. Quite simply, the man was a complete jerk for his entire life and had zero skills with which to land a good job in the first place. However had he managed to do so, he would have been fired from any decent company in the private sector with his demeanor and attitude. Politics is the only place where someone like him can “work”… if you call what he did work!

  3. Remember: the guy came from a rich, powerful family. He’d be working in a bar if it werent for them, and meagan McCain would probably be fatter and have a cocktail waitress as a mother.

  4. The only thing that was maverick about The Maverick was the way he treated his base

Oh yeah, he was also “maverick-y”about flight SOPs on missions over Hanoi — which is why he was shot down by AA fire, or so I’m told

  5. No name had a choice take the pill (usually dont die the following day after quitting chemo) or have his TRUE record revealed whereas he would not have received national recognition and burial. Let this be a wakeup to those who are trying to bring America down. President Trump is awake and on duty.

  6. Why is his military service beyond criticism? Benedict Arnold’s service helped save the Amercian Revolution, but his little bit of treason is what he is known for!
McCain was NO hero, and his service was based on FAMILY expectations, rather than love of country. He accepted a spot as a naval aviator just because daddy was an admiral; likeley depriving a far more worthy individual of a chance. When he made aviator (likely again because of daddy than from any great skills of his own) he managed to wreck FIVE expensive jet planes and likely caused the deaths of 170 sailors due to a “wet start” prank. (We’ll never know because of a “whitewash” of the incident, due once more to his daddy! We do know he was under guard after the incident because many of thoes present strongly felt he was responsible and wanted to keelhaul him on the spot!)

In short, McCain was a regular SOB, with NO redeeming qualities or service to his country. (Won’t even mention the Keating Five or the way he ditched his first wife after an auto accident made her less “pretty” in his eyes.)

  7. I GOT THE LAST LAUGH

All those people who said, “You don’t want Obama to win do you?!” —McCain is WORSE than Obama, and I voted for Ron Paul in 2008.

I knew the guy was a SCUMBAG, and would pass democratism with a Republican smiling face.

  8. Pretty much what you’d expect from a grandstander show-off with no moral convictions other than attracting attention to himself.

This is what got him shot down (not following evasive protocol). His injuries came from his being shot down, not torture, as he claimed. … Then, there is his infamous captured “Tokyo Rose” recorded broadcast recently released and not previously heard in the U.S. … It’s now on the internet. I listened to it again just three hours ago. In it he praised the wonderful N. VietNamese doctors who re-set his double fractured leg and the wonderful government that treated him with such kindness even though he was the aggressor. The Songbird is guilty of stolen valor. He also gained 10 pounds in captivity from preferential treatment while the other captives lost weight.

  9. You’re too kind when you said, aside from his military service…. McCain’s military service was also a failure. He almost flunked out of Annapolis. He crashed several planes during flight training. He failed on his mission over North Vietnam. His refusal to be released unless all prisoners were also released was a political ploy to please his father and to allow him to pursue a political career after the War … it was a calculated event.

  10. The fire on the USS Forrestal has John MCcain written all over it. While the fire fighting teams were still battling the fire, John flew off and took some vacation time in Saigon. Truly despicable. His dad was an Admiral so he was handled with care throughout his short naval carreer.
