LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan’s attempt to explore a pay-per-mile road usage charge (RUC) as a potential replacement for dwindling gas tax revenue has officially hit the brakes. The six-month pilot program, which aimed to recruit 1,000 residents to test the system, died a quiet death when state officials failed to secure funding for the initiative in 2024.
Instead of forging its own path, according to a report from the news media website “Governing”, Michigan will now rely on data from other states’ RUC experiments to piece together a plan should lawmakers decide that road usage charges are the way to go. more here
Reminds me of the scene from Blazing Saddles where Slim Pickens had to send someone to town for a bucket of dimes after encountering a toll gate.
Good! Now I hope Witchmer gets pushback on the Federal level on her solar and Chinese battery wet dreams.
Gee Wally,
Subsidies for EV manufactuerers is going to vaporize
Car manufacturers are getting out of the EV busuness
EV sales are not where they were forecast to be
Pay per mile only increases an already expensive electric alternative
If they add Pay Per Mile to gas cars they would have to drop the road tax on diesel and gasoline. People are not going to put up with a double whammy if they don’t!
The whole thing is pretty much an experiment until they can make 33kW weigh about 7Lbs
pull mo $ outa yo dindu ass, mofo
How much per mile will they pay me?
I could use the extra income in my retirement.
Wait, I have to pay?
Nevermind.
what’ll that asshole think of next?
Michigan suffers from the same problem most governments do. They spend more on the frivolous than they do on real needs like infrastructure. And, they eternally spend more than they take in even though taxes and other fees are at the breaking point for most citizens. The cow has about dried up. Until they learn to live within a realistic budget, focus on necessities, require productivity / self reliance and take profits out of politics it will remain the same.
@Vicious Sid,
The typical democrat in government is an idiot who doesn’t grasp systems at all. They think electricity comes from a wall socket, water from the tap, and anything down the drain goes to the sewers to disappear. They think roads fix themselves. Thereby leaving them free to pursue important things like transing kids and importing the entire turd world into the US.
They really are that stupid and worthless.
They want EVs but electricity is already taxed. Not to mention automobile registration fees, which can be fairly hefty in some states. Then there are tolls and parking fees. In NY state, if you get a certain number of points against your license, the DMV will charge you a ‘safe driver assessment’ (starts @ $300), AFTER you’ve already paid the fine and court surcharge.
@Harry – “People are not going to put up with a double whammy if they don’t!”
If they’re Demoncrats, they will.
‘Member when that tyrant campaigned on “Fix the damn roads”?
She is termed out, and still hasn’t done much about the roads.
The roads in Michigan are the worst I’ve ever seen. Gravel roads in Alaska after break-up are smoother.
“dwindling gas tax revenue” my aching ass. The fuck stupid would a person have to be to believe that nonsense. It is and has never been a case of less revenue, it is a case of allocation of that revenue to everything other than what it was ostensibly for in the first place, in the second place it was the same, in the third place it was the same all the way to the last place.
Plug-in cars just kind of suck for the environment, the grid and for convenience.
But hydrogen cars and trucks are the wave of the future.
dwindling gas tax revenue…
I guess when you cause thousands of folks to lose their jobs because of democrat bureaucracy it just leaves the ones that don’t work
Keep your hands off of my mileage!
Don’t tax my freedom!
