Minneapolis: $27 Million settlement with George Floyd family

CFP: Floyd’s family filed a federal lawsuit in July against the city and the four officers involved in the arrest that led to his death. The lawsuit took issue with neck restraints and police policies and training, among other things. It sought compensatory and special damages in an amount to be determined by a jury. more

  1. Shouldn’t the criminal trial conclude before anyone talks about awarding damages? They haven’t even determined in court who — if anyone — is liable for Floyd’s death, other than Floyd himself. (Running around doing stupid shit with an undiagnosed/untreated heart condition and pumping yourself with multiple times the lethal dose of fentanyl kinda lays the blame on YOU, and no one else.)

  2. I’ll let a cop kneel on my neck for 27 mil..

But, I can’t be black and I won’t die from a drug overdose, however I can pass off monopoly money, resist, claim I’m a good guy who can’t breathe and foam at the mouth.

I’ll settle for half to make up for my shortfalls.

no? okay, okay, I’ll hoover a rail of schneef for added effect. still no? damn.

    Ahh well…

  3. lawyers get half … that leaves 13.5 mill (according to my official Jethro Bodine cyphering) for the ‘family’

once the ‘family’ gets done their lawsuits filed by additional ‘family’ claimants, they’ll see very little of this, while the lawyers state-sanctioned thieves leach out the vast majority of the ‘family’s’ ill-gotten gains

& that’s why the US ‘Justice’ system is set up as it is …. the real goal is to enrich the ‘system’ … Wake The Fuck Up!

(besides, these ‘family’ members will blow through this $$$ faster than Rosie O’Donnell w/ a box of Krispy Kremes)

  4. Compensation for a death of a person is an ancient practice. The responsible party is not assumed to be criminally guilty. 27 million reflects the public profile of the case.

I hope the Floyd beneficiaries find a good, tough money manager.

  5. Without judging anything as right or wrong, or good or bad, or even legal or illegal, I would think that if that Cop (Chauvin) had chosen a different method of dealing with Floyd America would be a different place today.

Sometimes seemingly insignificant and unremarkable people do things that turn out to be major turning points in history, so think things through before you do them or it might be you that does it next time.

  6. I kinda wish the cops had taken more time to arrive on the scene.
George would still be dead, but strictly of the overdose, and the police and city would never have been blamed.
