This is not that funny. It’s true! For me anyway. Important trick is to spray PAM on the dish first, then the soaking part is greatly reduced and cleaning is only required when you need the dish for another casserole.

@TR: So when’s dinner?
5
I don’t think I’ve eaten a casserole since the late 80’s.
If you people have recipes… lemme know. lol

Ah, after dinner you’re supposed to throw (place) the casserole dish outside in the backyard. Let it stay there as long as it takes for the wild critters, insects, sunshine, and rain to clean it for ya. Then all you have to do is go get it, give it a rinse before dumping in the ingredients for the next casserole. Why do all that kitchen labor when the original organic dish washer is still readily available?

I let Maytag do the cleaning.
Good dog that Maytag…..
The only casserole I’ll eat is Italian casserole or as some call it, Lasagna.
7
not only is it a meal in one dish,
but you can eat out of the casserole dish and save the plates for samiches!

Two pups will clean a casserole pan in nanoseconds…just sayin

Well done. The guy looks like he was born to do infomercials.
3
Pro tip: Top it off and throw it back in the oven once a week. You’ll never have to wash the dish.

My calf liver and turnip casserole is a winner. Topped with a can of cream of asparagus soup. anybody who wants the recipe, let me know.
BTW, I wouldn’t go for that guy’s casserole. There is a very good chance a booger will fall out of his ample nose into the dish. No thanks.

WWWWaaaaaaaaaaaa! I miss cheese!

They lost me at adding cream of mushroom soup, I hate that stuff. When my kids were little we called it cream of slug soup. You can tell that I’m not from the Midwest where this is called a hotdish. And no lime Jello with shredded carrots in it either which my Aunt always made for holiday dinners, yuck. And don’t even get me started on creamed tuna on toast which is why they call it shit on a shingle, double yuck.

Geoff, I LOVE that lime Jello/carrot stuff!
2
I let the dog lick it clean and it keeps him busy.
Then it goes in the dishwasher.
A. it’s called a hotdish.
B. It’s the dog’s job to pre-clean the dish when you’re done. (my chihuahua will stare at the stove until I put the dish down for her.)
C. For dessert, you have bars.
D. Then you watch the game on TV. While sitting in the sauna. Drinking more beer…

A few snowflakes filed complaints against the owner of a popular local resturant called Soho’s. That has been in business about 18 years. The restaurant was started by Bill Soho, who passed away a few years ago. Since then his widow has continued to run the business. The owners of the building declined to renew her lease, due to the silly complaints, that ends Dec 31st. I have taken to eating there more frequently than usual over the past couple of months since the news broke she was being forced out.
I ate there a couple days ago. A dish that I’d never eaten before. Walnut Lasagna. It was pretty yummy.
I don’t know how close this online recipe matches Soho’s Vegetarian Walnut Lasgna recipe, there are several versions to be found with an internet search. Worth a try. I know we’ll be giving it a try making it at home.
Oh, and the bonus during my last meal at Soho’s is she has found a buyer who intends to keep the name, and generally the same cousine. If they don’t screw it up by decreasing the portions, upping the price, and dropping the better recipes we’ll be able to continue enjoying their offerings.
Of the six or 8 casseroles my wife makes she says her favorite is Chicken & Rice casserole:
1 whole chicken -.boiled & deboned ( save the broth)
1 c. Rice, uncooked
1 c. Chopped celery
1 c. Chopped onion
1c. Chopped green pepper
1 4 oz. can mushrooms, drained & sliced
1 6 oz. can water chestnuts, drained & sliced
8 ~ 16 oz of shredded cheddar cheese, to taste preference
Cook rice with 2 1/4 c. Broth for 15 minutes
In a skillet sauté chopped vegetables in butter
Add water chestnuts & mushroom, cook a few minutes more.
Mix in rice, chicken. Add 1/2 c to 1 c. of broth + about half of the cheese. Salt & pepper to taste.
Pour into buttered casserole dish.
Top with remaining cheese, or amount you prefer.
Bake at 350 deg-F for 30 minutes, till bubbly.
Not sure if this one is my favorite, I might favor her sweet potato & walnut casserole, but this one is her favorite one.
