Montana: Flathead Lake cherry trees in full bloom

KXLH

POLSON — The bees are busy pollinating orchards on Flathead Lake as close to 500 acres of cherry trees are in full bloom.

“I mean every flower has to be touched by a bee,” Campbell Orchards Owner Brian Campbell told MTN News.

Campbell said beehives are rented from outfits in Polson and Arlee, supplying thousands of bees to each orchard.

“We always have to rent hives; all the orchardists do because there’s not enough wild bees or pollinators to do the job,” said Campbell.

Up to 700 hives are needed, roughly two per orchard for full pollination. more here

  1. When I used to make deliveries to Kalispell, Montana one of my favorite drives was on the East side of Flathead Lake from Big Fork to Polson, Mt. It is an incredibly beautiful drive especially when the cherry trees are in bloom this time of the year.

  2. Have two Macintosh apple trees in the back yard in full blossom here in upstate NY. The cider press comes out in the fall and I make what I like to call monkey juice.

  3. Busy little bees.

Considering having a hive for myself and my church for the kids to get into and appreciate.

Fortunately not allergic to them myself, but haven’t yet looked into if any of the kids at church are.

Bumblebees could kill me, though. Which reminds me, I need to restock antihistamines in the trucks. They saved my life almost 30 years ago. Foolish not to have any on hand for myself and others.

  4. I love bumblebees, they are another miracle of God’s creation that are not technically supposed to be able to fly according to the laws of physics. I’ve never been stung by a bumblebee but have been stung more than once by regular bees, hornets and wasps and fortunately I’m not allergic to them. My father in law had to carry an epi pen with him at all times because he was deathly allergic to all bees and wasps etc.
