Amid growing concern over neurodevelopmental disorders, a recent study from Mount Sinai Hospital has reignited the debate surrounding acetaminophen, commonly known as paracetamol or Tylenol.
This analgesic, used by over 50% of pregnant women worldwide to relieve pain and fever, may be linked to an increased risk of autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in their children.
The report , published in August 2025 in the journal Environmental Health, analyzed 46 previous studies from international groups.
It applied the Navigation Guide methodology , a rigorous framework for evaluating environmental evidence. The findings show a consistent association: prenatal acetaminophen exposure increases the risk of autism by 19% (odds ratio 1.19) and ADHD by 26% (odds ratio 1.26).
Diddier Prada, MD, PhD, lead researcher at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai , emphasized: “Our findings indicate that higher-quality studies are more likely to show a link between prenatal acetaminophen exposure and elevated risks of autism and ADHD.”
The analysis included 20 studies on ADHD, eight on autism, and 18 on other neurodevelopmental disorders. This is not an isolated finding. A 2019 Johns Hopkins study, based on umbilical cord blood samples from 996 children, found that high acetaminophen levels tripled the risk of autism (up to 3.62 times) and doubled the risk of ADHD (up to 2.86 times). more
Of all people, Jenny Mcarthy raised this flag long ago. Google it.
While I’m not and never will be pregnant and I do have Tylenol in the house,a doctor told me to take 3 (I hate to say this this) 1,000 milligram tablets a day. That’s 3 frikken Grams of that crap, per Day. I didn’t even take one. DaFuq was he trying to do? NSAIDs aren’t something to take regularly, IMO,and he said take 3 frikken grams daily.
@BB – I remember Jenny McCarthy was castigated as just another “dumb blonde” when she spoke out about it (and she still is by the “current thing” people). I doubt they will ever admit she was right.
Acetaminophen is considered an NSAID but most people don’t realize it is also a COX-2 (cyclooxygenase 2) inhibitor as are Vioxx and Celebrex which were both taken of the market for causing heart attacks.

@Nolan P (this link backs up your thinking): Recent research shows acetaminophen can cause heart attacks, especially with long term / high dose usage (inhibits glutathione production). It’s also been well known for a long time to be quite toxic for the liver to process. So it’s really never been as safe as advertised.

Bad_Brad,
Yes she did.
And just like a broken Clock, I’m wondering what else she got right because SILICONE & BOTOX ain’t Vitamins.
Cheers with a Coffee!
All the factual info re Tylenol does not matter because TRUMP! So pregnant libs are downing handfuls of the stuff. Brilliant!
Looks like “Planned Incompetence” to me.
Exactly the same as what they did to our Justice System.
Exactly the same as what they did to our corporations.
Exactly the same as what they did to our Military.
Exactly the same as what they did to our Air Traffic Control.
Exactly the same as what they did to our Schools.
See the patterns?
It’s also dangerous to take it with alcohol in your system but that isn’t widely known either.
Walpurgis – With that info yer just enabling them 🤪
I love that video that popped up here a while ago with the Trump impersonator PSA to not take a toaster in the bath with you, or lick outlets. Trump should do some of those himself: Don’t clean your gun with ammo in it, Don’t use a lighter to check your gas tank. Don’t mix bleach and ammonia in a small invented room….
Well I guess better late than never that this comes out. It’s too bad that for the last 50 years doctors have been so incurious and blindly obedient to their masters: pharma and insurance. There are courageous ones for sure, but always under the threat of having their careers destroyed, or worse
