A Muslim doctor in Kyrgyzstan is under criticism after he put his professional duty on hold, making an epileptic toddler wait for treatment while he prayed.

“Doctor refuses to treat epileptic toddler till after Muslim prayer time”

A doctor in Kyrgyzstan came under heavy criticism for turning his back on a two-year-old patient with epilepsy, saying it was time for his Muslim prayers and he could only see the toddler after finishing them.

The news broke after local Health Ministry press service consultant Elena Bayalinova wrote about the incident on her Facebook page.

“Already religion is practically ruling over the family institution in our country; we can already see the problem of irresponsible polygamous marriages and abandoned children. We mustn’t allow for it to compromise people’s health as well. Administrative penalties are not enough. I ask for the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Kyrgyzstan to pay their attention to this incident,”Bayalinova wrote. The entry was later removed, however.   MORE

  1. If a Muslim baby boy dies because his doctor had to go pray, he will simply go to Islamic heaven like a little toddler martyr, so what’s the big stink here?

Who knows, maybe Allah will give him 72 older sisters to clean up after him and cater to his every whim, like they did on Earth

  2. I’m going to advocate a double-standard. If this were a devout Christian doctor, I would argue his right to religious exercise. Just because the kid is in need, that doesn’t give the kid a claim over the doctor’s freedom or the doctor’s freedom to exercise his religion.

I say double-standard because Islam is not a religion, it is an ideology.
