Two NASA astronauts that have been stranded in space will be returned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX instead of on the Boeing vehicle that brought them there. Boeing’s Starliner faced issues when it was parked at the International Space Station (ISS).
According to the Wall Street Journal, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson announced the decision to reporters on Saturday. Astronauts Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams will remain in orbit, parked at the ISS until next February, when the SpaceX craft is set to return with them on board.
President and COO of SpaceX Gwynne Shotwell posted about the events, saying, “SpaceX stands ready to support NASA however we can.”‘ read more
Maybe when Amazon heads up there to resupply they can hitch a ride back.
It’s not like they are the only people there.
There are total of six people on the ISS right now. One of them is Russian.
There are already flights planned for the other four to leave and new crew and supplies arriving.

It’s not NASA that can’t bring them back, it’s Boeing. Words matter.
Boeing isn’t officially a government entity but it certainly is in practice. The crippling lack of accountability and reward for genuine excellence is well smeared throughout all government and all corporate entities subsumed through economics and regulation to that flaccid, impotent, homosexual (sexless, uncreative) government.
Listen to Bill Nelson head of NASA and chief suck-up as well:
“At a Politico event this week, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson recalled his “lengthy talks” with the Vice President — officially the Democratic nominee for president for the 2024 election — about space, referring to Harris as a “space aficionado,” in the context of Nelson discussing Harris’ current role as chair of the National Space Council, a position that tasks her with overseeing NASA and advising the president on matters of US space policy and strategy.”

I really hope PDT wins and fires that smarmy ass-kisser.
And I will say it one more time: PDT should have been hitting this embarrassing “stranded astronauts” screwup weeks ago on the campaign trail.
Missed opportunity, but still a chance to ding Kamala and shame her to the point that the media has to say that she was never head of any “space” anything, and even if she was, it was only because Biden was setting her up to fail.
I wonder how much this will cost taxpayers?
spacex has to build spacesuits for the folks on the station so they can leave. the ones they have wont work with dragon.
@wildman — Interoperability is a pretty fundamental part of managing projects and systems with multiple vendors and sourcing. You’d think that somewhere in there somebody would have pointed out that it would be a mighty good idea if Brand B craft could handle Brand X space suites and vice versa. But no.
Forget it, Jake. It’s Govt-town.
suites— suitsdang fingers
Can’t trust a Boeing product in our atmosphere or in space.
interoperability & standardization threaten profits. plus: ‘they might be able to replace our useless asses’
I’m excited at the prospect of Elon being a part of the Trump administration.
What Walter said.
You trusted the government to send you into space? What the hell were you thinking?
