National Guard Soldier Killed In Afghanistan Identified As Utah Mayor, Father Of 7

DC: The American service member killed Saturday in an apparent insider attack in Afghanistan has been identified as Army Maj. Brent Taylor of the Utah Army National Guard.

Initial reports indicate Taylor was shot and killed by a member of the Afghan security forces, according to Operation Resolute Support, the NATO training mission in Afghanistan.

Another U.S. soldier was wounded in the attack, which occurred at the Kabul Military Training Center early Saturday afternoon. That soldier received medical treatment at Bagram airfield and returned to duty, NATO officials said.

Taylor deployed to Afghanistan in January as part of an advisory team that trains Afghan commando units, the Salt Lake Tribune reported. Before his death, he had served more than a decade in the National Guard, including seven years on active duty.

Taylor’s most recent deployment to Afghanistan was his fourth overseas tour — he had previously deployed twice to Iraq and once to Afghanistan. more here

  1. Heavenly Father, please welcome Major Taylor in your Kingdom,

May he know in the peace that your wife and children be forever proud of your service to our country. May your large family constantly learn from their father what true sacrifice is, even in his absence. And may they know the grievance of all of us, patriots, towards them in their mourning.

Your family will be in my prayers.

  2. This is what our friends and neighbors and countrymen and women are doing for us and country every day. May God bless them, protect them, and favor their families in all that they do.

Movie suggestions: “Lst Flag Flying” or “Taking Chance.” I cried alot!

  3. My reaction to this, as the parent of a son who returned from this base a few months ago, is pain. He died… for what?

Dammit already! Can we just get the hell out of this shithole and stop bleeding money and lives for these “allies”. Let the Taliban have it. We’ve dealt with worse regimes.

  4. Th1s story bothered me after I found out, it was reported this was a fourth or fifth tour. His commanding officer asked him to stay home – he had accomplished so much already amd with great honor did his duty for his country.
Very grateful for his service, but I think he was a glory hound and hooked on the rush of danger. Staying home and being a dad to those seven kids would have been his greatest achievement if he really thought things through. May he rest in peace.
