Native American son of Redskins logo designer says it’s not offensive, calls the change ‘hard’

WUSA9 WASHINGTON — Changing Washington’s NFL team logo is bittersweet for the family of the man who originally designed it.

The Washington Redskins announced Monday they will retire the Redskins nickname and logo. They have not yet selected a new name.

Washington’s logo has been an Indian chief since 1971. It was designed by Native American Walter “Blackie” Wetzel to depict a member of the Blackfeet tribe.

Wetzel grew up on the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana and was eventually elected president of the National Congress of American Indians in Washington, D.C.

He was instrumental in the Redskins franchise logo change from an “R” to the current depiction of a Native American.  more here

  1. Oh, the Irony. Dishonoring the Blackfeet by wiping
out a logo that was intended to honor their Nation,
was designed and approved by them and now must go
to make the commie “wokers” look more woke so they
can better honor their perverted selves.

  2. Mostly Blackforeskins works for me. Soon, there won’t be any sports team in America named for a Redhide Injun. And that statue of John Wayne needs to be removed along with a good name change for that damned right winged aeroport in Orange County; because Black Colored People are so sensitive and Redhided Injuns are so tired of being portrayed as savages who scalped and tortured just about anybody who got in their way for several centuries. Thanks for wrecking things, you ignoramuses.
