New Hampshire to end federal pandemic unemployment benefit, offers bonus to those who return to work

CONCORD, N.H. —

New Hampshire is ending its participation in the federal pandemic unemployment program that gave unemployed workers an extra $300 each week and introducing a bonus for people who return to work.

Gov. Chris Sununu said the additional federal benefit will end June 19. There’s a 30-day notice requirement, and Sununu said he contacted the Department of Labor on Tuesday morning to say that New Hampshire would leave the program.

Sununu said the state’s unemployment has nearly fallen to what it was before the pandemic forced many businesses to close or reduce operations. He said more jobs are available in New Hampshire than ever before, but 15,000 fewer people are employed than before the pandemic started.

  1. What, no bonuses for employees or business owners who stuck it out and have been going to work all along? I can’t tell from the story if you just have to work for eight weeks to qualify, or if you have to be unemployed and then work for eight weeks. Since it’s a government program, I’m going to figure they’re only rewarding the latter.

  2. Open the country back up- bring back all the jobs that were sent overseas stop giving away “free stuff ” because it isn’t free and then,if you don’t work you don’t eat.

  3. End the no eviction crap too!

This is great though. Every time Sununu does something like this in NH General Mills feels the heat.
She and the Dirty Dems are not going to give up their dictatorship easily.
