Ivanhoe Electric is moving quickly to develop what could be the first major new US copper mine in over a decade, targeting a 6,000-acre site of former farmland in Arizona. If the plan holds, construction at the Santa Cruz mine could begin next year, with copper production and sales anticipated by late 2028—a rapid timeline in an industry known for lengthy delays, the Wall Street Journal reports. The development comes at a pivotal time. US copper prices have soared, partly driven by President Trump’s pledge to impose a 50% tariff on copper imports starting Aug. 1. more
New copper mine, new coal mine, new rare earth mine, cutting solar/wind subsidies, killing offshore wind projects…
Let’s have just a bit more digging so we’ll have plenty of gravesites to bury all the environmentalists who’ve died because their heads exploded.

Magma, AZ was a copper producer for decades. Shipped huge ingots weighing tons on railroad flatcars. Lots of copper in AZ.
My dad was born in Bisbee, Arizona in 1929 when my grandfather worked at the Copper Queen mine. They moved to N. Idaho in 1930 and my grandfather was a hard rock miner and part time farmer who worked in the silver mines up around Mullan and Kellogg, Idaho in the Silver valley. He was making $5 dollars a day as a silver miner; I have some of my grandfather’s pay stubs from Hecla mines which I found in my dad’s stuff after he passed away in 2018.
This could NEVER happen under Green New Deal Democrats.
^^^^ Anonymous TUESDAY, 15 JULY 2025, 11:16 AT 11:16 AM The Phelps_Dodge copper mine and smelter at Morenci is where the trains loaded copper on flatcars. Each ingot weighed 700 lbs. So much for memory.
Believe it or not Commiefornia had a big copper mine that is now beneath Shasta Lake.
Al,
Love the visual, still smiling, I will giggle all day.

Had to be back when the Kellogg’s and the Campbell’s owned 90 percent of Idaho.
China’s been hording all Yellow Metals for decades. Copper, Brass, Bronze, Gold, etc. To the point where it’s a national security issue. Thank God for President Trump.
B_B,
Make so that if the CCP wants to buy anything from the US, they have to pay in PMs, hard metals; not paper, not credit, nothing electronic.
Toxic Deplorable Racist
You know what needs to change, our domestic smelters won’t take recycled metals. It’s stupid. It ALL goes to China. Not even aluminum. Straight to China. I read the other day where Trump had set up a couple processing plants on some military bases.
