New York Amazon workers vote to unionize, a major first for the retail giant

Just The News: Workers at a Staten Island Amazon warehouse this week voted to unionize, the first such successful vote in the company’s history and a possible turning point for Amazon’s often-contentious relationship with labor.

Members of the warehouse JFK8 voted 2,654-2,131 to be represented by the Amazon Labor Union, an organization which styles itself as “an independent, worker-led movement for job security, union pay, and better working conditions.”

The group celebrated the win on its Twitter page on Friday. “It’s official!! Amazon Labor Union is the first Amazon union in US HISTORY!!” they wrote.  read more

  1. I see that no where in the article that, at the same time in Birmingham, the Amazon workers voted NO to unionize. This was the second time they voted NO but union won’t leave them alone so I think there will be a third vote soon.

  2. So what’s the big deal? Work for a slave driver that doesn’t give 2 spits for his slaves or work for a slave driver and have a union say they represent you but you have to pay for their service and they really don’t give 2 spits for you either. Rock and a hard place.d

  3. “Union”…Hmmm….where did I hear this before…Oh yea, Soviet…

Quit and get a better paying job…or start your own company from the skills learned…What a bunch of lazy asses!…And retire happy, surrounded by Americans.

The money I paid to the Musician’s Union went directly to the Democrat Party. They never did do anything for me and my band mates, except we could not play in front of Americans without being Union.

    Yea. Know something…by inference.

The Post Office is getting creamed by Amazon. Have packages from Toledo, Ohio P.O. (and surrounding area) that are paralyzed from some deal made with Beto. The companies I order from are having to send me a second package of the same order. As much as I love Ohio, they need to get out of whatever deal they made with Amazon.

  5. There was a shoe company in Baltimore in the 60’s that voted to unionize. That night the owner of the company moved everything out and boarded up the building. The workers came to work the next day all excited about being unionized but they didn’t have jobs any more.
    Sad trombone please….

  6. Amazon should shut it down.
    Unions provide nothing.
Workers will pay for a group of fat parasites who will pretend to do what the workers could have done themselves.
Efficiency will fail, and eventually, the industry (see: American Steel).
People will have jobs with a company (with or without a union) but they’ll have NO jobs with a union without a company.

    PERIOD.

  7. Amazon has a croney deal with USPS for last mile delivery which tax payers pay for. So now the union fools will cut into the croney grift. Could care less. Don’t use Amazon
