According to Bloomberg, Newsom pushed for Panera Bread to be exempt from the new minimum wage law. Flynn, a billionaire restaurant franchisee, is a Newsom donor and was involved in business dealings with the California Governor.
Newsom told reporters of the exemption that it’s “part of the sausage-making” of politics.
So if the McDs next door is paying more, why would anyone work for HIM?
Well the wimpy folks in Calipornia vote in the ones that can be bought off.

I believe that was Chipotle, not Panera, with the salmonella outbreak.
What kind of a faux lib is this Flynn, he would want to pay his workers more because, you know, equality and all. In fact, any real lib worth his salt would pay them $50 an hour, as Barbara Lee advocated.
But this seems like an easy workaround, every McDonald’s should install one bread maker in all restaurants.

Rich Taylor, the legislation was written to prevent McD’s or another franchise to exempt themselves from the wage law by installing bread machines after the fact. The article at American Thinker says the bread machines had to have been in place Sept 2023. More proof it was a carve-out for one particular franchise brand.
It does not matter. If everyone around a Panera’s is paying more, then Panera will either have no staff, losers or folks will jump ship as soon as they can get a buck more an hour.
