Patch: KEENE, NH — The name of a new restaurant in Western New Hampshire is meant to be a play on words but municipal officials aren’t laughing. The French-Vietnamese eatery Pho Keene Great in Keene is slated to open in March but City Manager Elizabeth Dragon ordered owner Isabelle Jolie to take down her sign. Dragon told New Hampshire Public Radio the name sounds profane. MORE

Reasonable regulation of the First Amendment is right there. In the Constitution.
How about…Pho-Kin-A….
The Long Dong Inn….
That is sofa king wrong.
It’s right next to a furniture store, the “Sofa King.”
(OLT, you beat me to it!) 😉
The funniest newscast ever was after Korea’s Asiana Airlines flight 214 crashed into the seawall while landing at San Fran (SFO), and the local newscast rushed to get the Asian pilots’ names on air:

Whoever pulled this prank belongs in the Prankster Hall of Fame.
No Pho Keene in Keene, so, Suk Muk Duk.
“Pho” is pronounced “fuh” for those that do not eat Vietnamese.
Dick Durbin better look out!

Is Kum Ofsum Yung Gy soup on the menu?
The was a pho restaraunt in suburban Seattle named “What The Pho” It was gone within a year. I never got the chance to take a picture of the sign.
Mr. Anth Ropy,
Oh man, I had forgotten that one. It’s brilliant.
Thanks! for the trip down memory lane.
The City Manager will get the Pho Q Special.
And if they don’t take it down, what happens?
@OneLastTime: That is sofa king Wong.
FTFY.
🙂
…could be worse. Could be the Hoo Flung Dung…
There’s a Baits Shop/Tackle store on the Sacramento River in the town of Isleton named “The Master Baiter”.
The biggest problem appears to be with her mind, not with the sign.
Bad Brad.
I always wanted to create a mobile bait service for saltwater fishermen on shore.
Eels on Wheels.
This story made my day, btw.
We had one named Ifuku which means something regarding sewing technique or some such.
Went out of business all the same.
“I don’t care, it SOUNDS racist!”
Said the city council member about the word “niggardly”.
My Vietnamese friends pronounce it FA like in the Sound of Music…”FA, a long long way to run” was the example they used! 🙂
Reopen as “Lizard Dragon”. Let’s see the hall monitor nix that.
FA, a wrongwrong way to run?
PHenry
Isleton is way north on the California Delta. A couple years back one of the tournament organizers decided it would be a good idea to hold a bass tournament out of there. An hour plus on the pad at 80 mph to get to good water. Part of that journey included motoring around ocean going vessels with HUGE wakes. I got my pilots license that day.
So I guess the old NH State slogan, “Live Free Or Die”, is no more?
