NJ Governor Proposes 2,400 Percent Tax Increase On Firearms

DC:

Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy is proposing legislation that would drastically increase the fees on firearms in New Jersey, hiking the cost to buy and sell guns by up to 2,400 percent.

The proposal includes various steep tax increases such as raising the cost of handgun permits, required to purchase a firearm in New Jersey, from $2 to $50, reports Guns.com.

Other changes include increasing identification card fees 1,900 percent to $100, dealer licenses 900 percent to $500 and manufacturer licenses 900 percent to $1,500.

Fees on carry permits, which are already known for being difficult to acquire in New Jersey, are expected to increase an additional 700 percent to $400. Across the state line in Pennsylvania, carry permits are only $20.  more here

  1. This should be couched as Leftist Elitism at its best making a basic Constitutional right out of reach to the common man. Only the rich will be sanctioned to own guns. Make the licensing fees a million dollars and only the fabulously wealthy will be sanctioned gun owners.
The so-called “Equality” of the Left!

  2. These extremists twist laws to force strict compliance with their views. They do it in any case to skirt around constitutional rights. They’ve really overstepped but the sheeple there have been conditioned to accept all dished out through fear of government.

  3. LocoBlancoSaltine – No he doesn’t want to build new tolls for placing in front of gun owners houses. He wants to build new tolls so that money can be used towards filling up the coffers of the state pension fund. The same fund that has been raided, plundered and double dipped into by every legal thief (politician) in the state.

What’s even more amazing is how not a single person (aka Democrat) will say they voted for the bum now.

  4. Have a friend that moved here to FL from Jersey about 15 months ago. I guess he misses it up there because he’s moving back. The thing is he has purchased several guns since being here and I don’t think he understands that he’ll need to refinance his home just to buy ammo up there. Oh well, I tried to tell him.

  5. Nothing like creating a nice thriving black market. While it might be against the so called “law” to bring firearms into the state, nobody said anything about the ammo.

  6. “… cost of handgun permits, required to purchase a firearm …”

Ahhhh … so the State of New Jersey “PERMITS” the ownership of handguns?
The reason there exists a “New” Jersey is that people grew tired of the oppression of the “Old” Jersey and came to America to be FREE.

    How soon they forget.

When I read the Old Testament, and the Jews fell back into idolatry and the worship of “foreign” gods ONLY A GENERATION OR TWO from some cataclysmic event, I would scream (in my own mind) “Wait! Don’t you know that God is gonna be pissed, over this!?” But as I read on, they continued down that path.

The lesson, I think – or at least ONE of the lessons – is that we REALLY do the same stupid shit, over and over again. Each generation must re-learn the lessons of the past, in their own way – however catastrophic that may be.

Europe – convulsed by WWI – walked into WWII perfectly awake and aware – but deluded themselves that SOMEHOW it would be different. And America plays “Monkey See; Monkey Do” right along behind them!

    Ah, well.

    izlamo delenda est …

  7. @Organgrinder, actually if your northern friend gets caught with his new toys after his return to NJ, he will be facing a lot more than taxes. Good luck getting them registered.

  8. Jim Crow law in NJ now.
    A Democrat plantation racist
    disarming the poorest blacks?
    “I am Shocked, Shocked!”
Wake up NRA. You were created
to keep the ex-slaves from being
    disarmed by their former Democrat
    masters.

  9. I think it’s time to start removing the domestic enemies of freedom and liberty.

I mean that in a literal sense.

You big-minded politicians who think you are all smarter than everybody else are directly and deliberately fucking with America and Americans, and it WILL STOP.

Correct thinking Americans are in the process of purging you legally, but if that doesn’t work I think you all in “public service” shouldn’t start whining when it becomes a kinetic situation if the legal process fails.

  10. You all are haters. This will hit criminals the hardest. How will they be able to use guns for murders, drive-bys, robberies, and gang wars? They’ll be limited to rounded butter knives. Maybe the governor has found the perfect way to stop crime.

  11. Counter that with an EO that guns will be issued to all US Citizens as congress refuses to protect our borders. Next, mandatory gun safety classes and ammunition at discount prices.

  12. Now a governor somewhere else needs to say that you should provide proof that you’ve paid over “X” amount of dollars in taxes in order to vote.

As long as we’re curtailing civil rights because a few like to break the rules or use theirs irresponsibly.

  13. Except for the State House area, Trenton is a shithole. A dangerous ghetto.

Gov. Murphy can’t do anything to change that fact, so he picks on gun owners, NRA members etc.
    He’s a blow hard.

  14. Sounds good to ignorant, narrow thinking leftists. So, what’s next? 36000% tax on cigarettes? Where will it stop? A NJ 10000% ‘vice tax’; cheer for each one, until it’s your turn: 5670% tax on sugar, anyone, how about vehicles, there are a lot of individual taxes to be gained on vehicles.
