California’s gas prices are set to increase yet again due to a follow-up increase as part of the state’s 2017 gas tax hike.
The gas tax hike initially brought a 12 cent-per-gallon hike to gas prices in November 2017, shortly after the law’s passage.
According to AAA, the national average price of gas per gallon was $2.716 on June 30. In California, the average was $3.754. more
I’m fortunate in what little traveling I do that I can avoid passing through that commie state.
And, it isn’t just the gas prices I’m avoiding.
I wonder how many people will buy their last tank of overpriced CA gas on their way permanently out of that benighted state?
I like that gas price sign graphic. But in CA it needs to be updated:
Regular: ARM
Special: LEG
Super +: NUT
Ethanol-free: YOU’RE UNDER ARREST
The gas tax just went up $0.19 per gallon here in Shitlinois. The day before it went up, I filled every tank and every Jerry can I have. Sitting on about 155 gallons right now, yeah I’ll need to buy more eventually, but at least I saved something.
They do this every few years to “fix the infrastructure” that never gets fixed. Goes into the general fund to be spent on freebies for illegals.
Consider $144 oil that will likely happen again. Back out fed & state taxes of $0.76 and use a 2.57 multiplier (144 divided by today’s price) and you get $7.68. Add back taxes and California is looking at $8.44 per gallon. That’s assuming zero increase inflation/taxes between now and then. Assume 5 years to get there at a modest compound 2.25% inflation rate, it’s exactly $1 more, or $9.44 per gallon with current taxes. At which time $0.58 Cal state tax will only be 6% of the total and that would mean another increase.
Of course though, many believe the true cost of gas is higher due to subsidies and pollution. Many argue gas should be around $15 today. If you want to really go off the rails, a gallon of gas is equivalent to approx. 600 man hours. At $15/hr, a gallon of gas delivers $9000 of value.
Sky’s the limit.
Californians are all rich, they can afford this sort of stuff.
Hey, no problem here in Oregon; our idiot legislators will likely pass Cap-N-Trade next legislative session;; we will all be forced to drive electric cars and trucks !
Time to get a diesel and run that bad boy on used fryer oil. I got plenty of that.
Can one buy gas on their EBT yet? All those California turdworld fence jumpers will be walking.🥴
Is It easy for gasoline to reach number one, when the governor’s number two.
I’m okay, I bought gas on June 30th.
😉
Our governor, J.B.”Toilets” Pritzker, just doubled gas tax in Illinois from $0.19/gal to $0.38/gal. We went from No. 10 highest to No. 3 in gas tax. Won’t be long before we rank up to 2 and then pass California.
“In Illinois , Our Governors make Our License Plates”
This slogan needs to return again.
Not only did Illinois raise the gas tax, they linked it to the inflation rate so the price goes up automatically every year without having to publicly vote on an increase.
Part, or probably all of Illinois’ gas tax hike is currently designated for a high speed rail line from Chicago to St. Louis. There are no mountains to get in the way, but since Illinois’ legislators are at least as corrupt and/or incompetent as California legislators, I have no doubt that eventually only 10% of the line will be completed at 10 times the total estimated cost.
The goal of the gas tax isn’t to fix roads, it is to fund public transportation and get people out of cars. California and Illinois politicians want to make it difficult to flee their state.
Are the taxes going to finish that light rail project or for street decontamination units to protect from filth of the homeless?
When I was stationed in Los Angeles (1970 – 1973) prices tended to range in the 25 to 35 cents a gallon range. When I was leaving in the summer of 1973, I was hearing about gasoline going to around a dollar a gallon.
