Not particularly relevant, but NancyJoe made me think of this.
Our very multi-ethnic and very young HR department in our overseas-owned company decided to change dental plans on us this year. They’ve done it before when they were less – diverse – so shouldn’t have been a big deal.
Except that they lifted all the names off of an IT document that was just there to keep track of an email system changeover, which had the first and last names concatenated. So, if you were Nancy Joe Doe, you were in the system as Doe, NancyJoe.
I’m not sure if it’s laziness or because they are unfamiliar with American naming traditions, they either did not notice this or did not care, and so submitted the names in this format to the dental provider.
As a result, if you get a covered procedure, your claim will be denied if you fill out your documents as Nancy Doe or Nancy Joe Doe or Doe, Nancy Joe, or anything OTHER than Doe, NancyJoe.
To THEM, that’s your LEGAL name.
…our HR department is either unwilling or unable to resolve this on their own, didn’t even TELL anyone about it until claims started getting denied. The dental provider REFUSES to do anything about it, instead insisting on you downloading their app, being rejected by their app, then creating an account as Doe, NancyJoe, THEN changing your name within the app.
My mother was an HR Vice President back in the day, when it was known as a Personnel Department.
She says she would have fired them ALL.
OT, I know, but the way that looked to me after this recent experience just made me want to point out yet another example of the Incompetencing Of Amerika in full flower…
