Nonstick Cookware On The Chopping Block In California

Zero Hedge-

California lawmakers have advanced a bill to ban the sale of nonstick cookware and corded kitchen appliances that contain PFAS (forever chemicals) despite strong opposition from an industry group that insists the products are save.

Bill 682 would phase out a range of consumer products in the state – along with many commercial products, that contain any amount of “intentionally added PFAS” starting in 2028.

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are man-made chemicals, known as forever chemicals because they don’t break down easily and can build up in the human body and the environment.

The bill would make it illegal for anyone to distribute, sell or offer for sale any cookware that contained the chemicals – so all you garage sale sellers better watch out.

“PFAS are leading to an avoidable public health crisis,” said state Sen. Ben Allen (D) who introduced the bill. “It’s clear we need to be taking stronger steps to regulate and minimize the use of these forever chemicals.” MORE

America is at that awkward stage. It’s too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards.

Well, Claire? Where do we stand today, especially with Californians?

  2. First they came for my gas powered lawnmower, and I did nothing, because I lived in an apartment. Then they came for my gas powered car, and I did nothing, for I lived in a city and took public transportation. Then they came for my guns, and I did nothing because I left my guns with my parents when I moved to the city. Then they came for my non-stick cookware and corded appliances . . .

  3. IF the bastards on the left could get away with it you know damn well that they would instigate a Ukrainian style Holomodor (mass starvation) of the 1930’s and smile while they starved everyone to death all in the name of equity and progressivism. I wouldn’t put it past them; I am sure that some of these assholes have already thought it. Hey, if it worked for Stalin it could work for us.

  4. I already go to Reno to buy aftermarket vehicle parts from manufacturers who haven’t paid their alms to CARB. I guess I’ll start going their for most other products in the future. On the upside my relatives there will be seeing me more.

  5. Well-seasoned cast iron pans will last forever if properly taken care of. Nonstick cookware will last maybe 5 to 10 yrs. if you’re lucky and will have to be replaced, while a good cast iron skillet or pan will more than likely become a family heirloom passed down thru the generations.

  6. Unfortunately, California state politicians are focused on banning everyday items instead of solving real problems. Homeless epidemic? Dunno, maybe no solution to this problem. Unchecked wildfires? Global warming – can’t do anything about that. Unaffordable housing? Can’t think of any solution here. Crime? Hey, criminals need stuff. Deteriorating educational standards? Just lower what is acceptable – reading is overrated. Spending more than what is being taken in? Let’s tax rich people more and bring in more illegal immigrants. Businesses and productive people fleeing the state? Damn you Texas, Florida, and other red states for luring our people away with sensible policies. Spending billions on a high-speed train between Bakersfield and Fresno that few people want to ride? We’re progressive. And on and on.

But, non-stick cookware; something universally used we can ban. Hey, we’re doing something – it may be stupid, but at least we are taking some action on something.

  7. A few years ago I bought a TV stand from Amazon that had real wood shelves. On one of the shelves was a sticker that said it ‘may contain sawdust’ that the state of California has determined could be hazardous to your health. I suppose if you work in a sawmill that sawdust can be bad, but the tiny amount on my TV stand was of no consequence at all. As the kids say, Commiefornia is whack.

  8. I had a sticker that read, “Parts of this product are known in the state of California to cause cancer”.
this sticker was affixed to a gunsmithing hammer from Brownells.
    …A hammer….

  9. You can’t call fascism to be fascism anymore since that would be fascism to the left. Fascism has lost its true meaning and has become another damned euphemism used by the left to describe anyone who disagrees with them. Yeah, I know that I’m thinking logically but the left has no logic or mantra except to hate everything.

Somewhere around the turn of the century there was a shop out a little west of us that made model airplane kits from balsa wood. They went out of business because the EPA said they had to instal expensive equipment to filter, treat and dispose of the sawdust as well as approved PPE. This was a two man operation (little cottage industry) that could in no way afford to do that so they went out of business.
