North Korean Defector Honored By Trump Reveals What Struck Him Most About Life On The Outside

Daily Caller: Many North Koreans are amazed by life in South Korea, and that was no different for Ji Seong-ho, the remarkable young defector who made a special appearance at the State of the Union address Tuesday night.

Ji endured starvation, suffered severe injuries, lost loved ones, and experienced firsthand the Kim regime’s brutality before he left North Korea. His journey to freedom was marked by pain, tears, and incredible hardship. When he finally reached South Korea, “it was beyond my expectations,” he revealed in an interview with The Daily Caller.

“I felt like I had traveled 30 years into the future,” he said commenting on the level of development in South Korea.

But, what shocked him most about life in South Korea was not the impressive advancements of an unshackled, free society; rather, it was the trash cans.  read more

  1. Goes to show how much whining we have in America about things like BLM and politics and such when there are really important issues out there.

    My mother grew up in Nazi Germany and would often tell me what it like to get or find food near the end of the war. They would get pieces of sawdust bread and go to the train tracks to wipe the animal grease/fat (Germany had little oil/petroleum left) used to provide lubrication for the trains.

    She would say after those kinds of experience that a person got a whole different perspective on America and it’s opportunities.

  2. When we first allowed Soviet’s to freely visit in the states they were just as flabbergasted. They thought that they were being shown Potemkin villages. They were amazed by shopping malls and grocery stores, and that set off mass defections.
