In case you missed it, in the midst of all the hockey and basketball playoffs taking place, Novak Djokovic quietly won his 100th singles title on Saturday after defeating Hubert Hurkacz in a three-set thriller at the Geneva Open.
The Djoker is one of only three men’s players to compile 100 singles titles; the other two being Roger Federer and Jimmy Connors (heard of ’em?). more

Jimmy Connors was my favorite player when I followed tennis way back when.
Saw him play in the US Open in New York in 1979.
It’s a rare, good man who has such discipline over himself that he can become the worlds greatest in his chosen sport, AND make reasoned, rational decisions in the face of govt persecution and public clamors for punishment.
I have nothing but deep admiration for Mr. Djokovic. Kudos!

Here’s my Novak story.
In the aughts when he was starting to show some tennis brilliance, because of his antics-like zealously scratching his butt imitating Rafa who is always adjusting his shorts-I kinda of sidelined him.
I went to the 2008 Aussie Open in Melbourne. It was Tsonga and The Joker in the finals and I was of a mind along the lines of too bad both of then can’t lose, both of them were jerks in the media before the match(as an aside, the father of the Williams sisters revealed himself to be a flat out racist there)
Novak dropped the first set with a killer lob on Tsonga’s winner. Came back and won 3 straight for his first Grand Slam.
Respect went up a notch. Over the next decade, he held his own and sometimes more with Fed & Rafa.
His refusal to take the vax to play in the Australian Open and coming back to win it the next year put this guy on another level.
Only thing is he’s vegan? WTHell?
