NYPD precinct commander quits force in protest over handling of reforms

Wa Examiner: The commander of a police precinct in New York City will resign this week, citing a lack of guidance from superior officers on recent reforms led by the city.

Deputy Inspector Richard Brea, a nearly 30-year veteran of the New York City Police Department, will quit the force, Guardian Angels leader Curtis Sliwa confirmed to the New York Post.

“How am I supposed to lead?” Brea said, as recalled by Sliwa. “I’m doing this, and others may be following in my footsteps.”

As calls for sweeping police reform have reverberated across the nation, Mayor Bill de Blasio has sought aggressive changes to law enforcement practices in the nation’s largest city. MORE

Nearly 30 years on a union controlled police force in a blue city? I’m sure he will be fine with his pension.

If he is truly pure in his motives, then thank you to Brea. Otherwise, this is just talk.

  2. He made a statement, union or not.If it doesn’t comport with everyone, that’s tough. I say good for him despite the cynical response from another poster.

  3. From Minnesota along the same lines: Star Trubune 6-26-20 – “The Minneapolis City Council voted to advance a proposal that would create a new Department of Community Safety and Violence Prevention. The city would need to change its charter, which serves as its constitution — and it would need approval from voters.”

If the voters know what’s good for them, they will defete this in a landslide.

I said, “IF”. Having lived in a SW suburb for 32 years, I don’t think they do know what’s good for them.

Edit: Oh, and the new department will be run by Antifa and BLM.

  4. As a retiree from the NYPD I say congrats and good on him, no leadership above his rank and he let it be known Just yesterday officers from his precinct, the 46 which is an absolute unflushed toilet area of the Bronx collared a guy for walking around with a grenade launcher and bullet proof (i say resistant) vest go look it up on the ny post website in the metro section (do not confuse with metro sexual section haha), that precinct was a horror show back in ’92 when i was a new jack

I’m gonna take an educated guess that as a cop to start his career he was active and proactive so it probably crushed his soul as it did mine when all this crap started the old saying when i was new was “the job is dead” it was sarcasm, now tho the job has been murdered and the corpse has been raped
