Off-Duty Alaska Pilot Charged with Attempted Murder After Trying to Take Control of Plane, Shut Down Engines Mid-flight

GP: As reported earlier, an Alaska Airlines flight was diverted to Portland Sunday night over a “credible security threat” related to an authorized person in the cockpit.

The airline said the authorized occupant was sitting in the flight deck jump seat.

“On Oct. 22, Alaska Airlines Flight 2059 operated by Horizon Air from Everett, WA (PAE) to San Francisco, CA (SFO) reported a credible security threat related to an authorized occupant in the flight deck jump seat,′ Alaska Airlines said. “The crew secured the aircraft without incident.”

It turns out the man who posed the security threat was an off-duty pilot. more

  1. Did Scotty beam him into the cockpit or did he use the code he knew to enter and surprise the crew? If neither of those was the case, wouldn’t that suggest he was authorized to be in the cockpit? That is not to suggest or imply what he did was in any way proper, but if he was in the jump seat, he was authorized to be in the cockpit.

  2. He was a quiet, sweet guy. Never had an issue with him and he kept to himself. He would go out of his way to help you if you needed something. You couldn’t ask for a better neighbor.
