Oregon Secretary of State to resign next week

JTN: Oregon Secretary of State Shemia Fagan will resign next week. Fagan plans to resign on May 8 due to a political scandal.

Fagan has received criticism for her decision to take a $10,000-per-month side job as a cannabis consultant. The contract came from the owners of a cannabis chain that her office was responsible for auditing, according to Oregon Public Broadcasting.

Deputy Secretary of State Cheryl Myers will take over the post until Governor Tina Kotek appoints a successor.

Initially, Fagan tried to justify the role. However, she backed down in the face of increased scrutiny and apologized on Monday. MORE

  1. There has to be more to the story. Scandals such as this are common. In fact, it’s a badge of honor, a resume enhancer for democrats. They got rid of her for other reasons.

  2. So, obvious conflict of interest, and she gets to resign? How about fired/impeached for cause? Maybe a side of prison?

    What are they smoking?

    Oh. Oregon.

  3. Democrats have gotten away with so much corruption, they are starting to get cocky and careless. This gal should have been a little more “creative”. For example have her husband/lover/partner take the gig as a “cannabis consultant “, thereby laundering the money. What an amateur. But she’s young; still has time to learn the AOC playbook.

Even in Oregon, the discovery of this scandal could be enough to tip the election to a Republican (David Richardson, a Republican, was elected Sec of State 10 years ago, just before his sudden, untimely death). By appointing her replacement now, the new sec. of state will have the advantage of incumbency in the next election. That’s how politics works in Oregon.
