Geoff, a lot of mainline (traditional) churches hire musicians based on musical ability, not on any theological traits. Not uncommon for them to hire people outside the denomination. This guy sounds to be way outside, possibly even atheist.

When we were church goers long, long time ago, I would crack up when the preacher said “and here’s Vesta on the organ.” It left a vision on my mind the rest of the sermon.
For those who want to know, this guy’s church was an Episcopal Church. I was an Episcopalian for many decades and we left in 2009. We go to an Anglican Church now that does not fall under The Episcopal Church and their heresies.
