JTN: Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has indicated he will support former President Donald Trump’s reelection bid in 2024.
Speaking in a prerecorded interview to be aired Sunday with “CBS Sunday Morning,” McCarthy fielded questions on the Republican prospects for 2024, saying he expected Trump to become the GOP nominee and that “[i]f Biden stays as the nominee for the Democrats, I believe Donald Trump will win. I believe the Republicans will gain more seats in the House and that the Republicans will win the Senate.”
In the exchange, Robert Costa pressed McCarthy on whether Trump could count on his support in the race, to which the former House Speaker responded “yeah.”
“That’s an endorsement?” Costa asked.
“I will support the president. I will support President Trump,” McCarthy double down. He further indicated he was open to serving in a Trump cabinet “in the right position, if I’m the best person for the job.” more
