Pacific Palisades Wins Carveout Against Urban Densification in Fire Zones

Breitbart: The fire-ravaged community of Pacific Palisades notched a political victory Tuesday when Governor Gavin Newsom (D) agreed to issue an executive order exempting fire zones from urban densification legislation.

The fight centered around SB 9, a 2021 law meant to encourage housing construction by letting homeowners subdivide their lots more easily, and build accessory dwelling units (ADUs, also known as “granny flats”).

The well-intentioned law, initially welcomed by property owners, turned into a threat after the fire, when the community feared that developers would purchase burned-out single-family lots and build multi-family housing instead, changing the character of the area and adding to traffic congestion, among other problems. more

  1. “…multi-family housing…” aka slums. There are darn few intact families in multi-family housing. And all the problems that come with it.

  2. I have been saying since January that the one thing Pacific Palisades area has going for it is that nearly every one of those 3-4,000 homes that burned was worth north of $2M. Not all of those owners are wealthy – many are like my parents, not much liquid wealth but a paid-off house – but many of those homeowners do have significant wealth, connections, and power. Were this fire anywhere else (say, Lahaina, Hawaii) there would likely be less pushback.
I think Benito still has property in the area. We fortunately sold ours a couple of years ago.

  3. The real reason Newscum has signed this Executive Order Exemption is the 101 Million he had allocated for this Slum Project has already Magically Disappeared like the 100 Million Fire Aid money and is no longer available to spend on his SLUM PROJECT.
