Packwoodism Is Why We Lose

Oregon Catalyst-

By Alex Titus

Former U.S. Senator Bob Packwood recently penned an op-ed lambasting the Oregon Republican Party for embracing “right wing” candidates and its continued failure to win statewide elections. Packwood is right that the Oregon Republican Party has continually failed its voters and also the state — that’s a gimme. But he’s deeply mistaken about the reason why our candidates keep losing.

In fact, the reason Oregon Republicans come up short is because we nominate candidates with the exact policy agenda that Packwood favors: generic centrism and social liberalism. Until the GOP drops its obsession with being “moderate” and starts introducing solutions to real problems that voters care about, we’ll keep losing.

Packwood’s general political diagnosis may be misguided but he’s certainly right about the dire state of the Oregon GOP. Fundraising efforts seem to be non-existent, the party has no paid staff, and candidate recruitment is lacking to say the least. While I served in the Trump Administration, colleagues would frequently tease me about some sort of embarrassment from the party that would make national headlines. more

  1. No shit

And right across the river in Washington’s 3rd & 4th Congressional Districts in Jaime Herrera Beutler and Dan Newhouse the powers that be in the Washington State Republican Party has installed the latest iterations of this brand of loser. The east side/Bellevue/Redmond bunch are pieces of shit who can’t even hold their own formerly “safe” districts and they top it off by screwing up other parts of the State as well.

  2. When Oregon voters are given the choice of a real Dem or a Pubbie trying to be a Dem, they’ll choose the real thing every time.
You can’t out Democrat a Democrat.

  3. For quite a few years you’ve had a huge number of Californians coming into Oregon just to vote. You use to see more California plates than Oregon ones in town around the beginning of November; now with mail-in ballots, not so much, but I’d be willing to bet that far more than half of those mail-ins are coming back from California

  4. For the “young guns”
Bobby was one of GWB’s BFFs who “BORKED” judge Bork. As Barry clearly showed in his book 61 years go; GOP “leaders” are usually far left, lilberals. GWB and his friends show it is true in 2021~!

Had ll of GWB’s friend svoted conservative here would have been NO COVER FOR “MODERATE” D TO VOTE AGINST BORK!

    DISCLQIMER lte:
I was pro Bork ! So I never voted for GWB! I clearly am conservative and biased in favor of
