Sky News: A British woman has been pulled out of the sea alive 10 hours after falling from a cruise ship off the coast of Croatia.
The passenger, named in reports as Kay Longstaff, was taken to hospital in the city of Pula and is said to be in a stable condition.
She reportedly fell from an aft deck of the Norwegian Star cruise ship about 60 miles (95km) off Croatia’s coast late on Saturday night.
A Croatian rescue ship was scrambled and found her swimming not far from where she was believed to have fallen.
The 46-year-old gave an interview to the Croatia news service HRT saying she felt “very lucky” to have survived.
“I was in the water for 10 hours, so these wonderful guys rescued me,” she said.
“I am very lucky to be alive. I was sitting at the back of the deck.” MORE
How Gracefuly done. Now were she a Muslim ” I will Sue the Ship, and the Bastards who touched my Skin and Tried to Drown Me by putting Hands at Me “
That’s one mighty fortunate lady. Ten hours in the water is a long, long time. Even if the water feels warm, immersion saps your body heat and eventually you weaken from hypothermia.
Alcohol was definitely involved. She was having a monster row with her boyfriend and companions before she disappeared. The railing is 5 feet 5 inches high and impossible to fall over board in a calm sea. I hope she learned her lesson. Ten hours in the sea is more than enough time to reconsider her priorities.
At least the water is warm there.
The way this story is presented is horse shit with grated cheese on it.
“I was sitting at the back of the deck.” Sure you were honey.
You are alive by the Grace of God (as we all are), now get lost.
If you have ever been on a cruise, you know it takes some talent to fall off the back.
@Marco: You are 100% correct. It’s impossible to fall overboard on a cruise ship UNLESS you’ve been drinking and sitting on the railing and lose your balance. I bet she isn’t telling that part of this story. People jump all the time from cruise ships, but they want to kill themselves. Every muster drill I’ve been to (and many of them), it’s pounded loud and clear not to sit on railings, yet we hear stories like this and she isn’t telling all of it. Yeah, she got lucky. Doesn’t matter how fit you are, hitting water like that could have broken her neck.
