On Tuesday, Pennsylvania’s Pittston Area School District revealed it had placed one shotgun and one AR-15 in each of its schools for use by a resource officer in the event of an attack.
The Times Leader reported that news of the acquisition and placement of the firearms “was released during Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting.”
Pittston board president Frank Serino stressed that the firearms were part of a larger effort to enable law enforcement to respond more quickly to active incidents. more

Well, I’ll give them credit for even trying. The misnamed resource officer needs to have training and willingness to apply those tools. While not all teachers are NEA women, most are, and unwilling to take decisive action.
What they really need is a Uvalde cop in each school.

In my little town, the school resource officer is a fully trained peace officer. But there is only one and he is responsible for 6 different schools so the odds of him being at the school that needs him are small. Most municipalities, as far as I know, do not have a specific school police department like Uvalde, but pull from the regular police department. The SRO is a coveted position, with stable hours, weekends off, and little to do but schmooze with the teachers and students.
In old days, many of the cops were ex-military who would have no compunction about dropping a bad guy. But today’s LE is a different breed, one that I don’t have much confidence in.

I think there could be an app for this. Applicants within 5 miles would be vetted and trained in various scenarios. One button to have 10-12 first responders.
