Pentagon deploys Navy destroyer for border protection in history-making move

BPR: President Donald Trump’s efforts to secure the U.S. border will now include a Navy warship.

The U.S. Navy announced that an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer will be operating in U.S. and international waters after it left from Virginia on Saturday. The USS Gravely, which was recently deployed to the Middle East defending against Houthi attacks, will have a special U.S. Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment (LEDET) aboard as it responds to Trump’s national emergency declaration.

“As commander in chief, I have no higher responsibility than to defend our country from threats and invasions, and that is exactly what I am going to do,” Trump said during his inaugural speech in January.

“Mr President, perhaps a destroyer should be sent up the Potomac?”

…there was a Clive Cussler novel years ago where the USS Iowa was purchased as scrap but instead had a lot of internals and most turrets removed to lighten it so it could go up the Potomac far enough to fire 16″ shells from its remaining turret on DC.

As dense as their heads are, youd need something like THAT to penetrate.

(and yes, I know it could never happen because, “de-milling” and a whole lot of other real-world issues, but still a good story and a nice thought…)

  2. Our Navy is doing border control here, with Destroyers, while our Coast Guard is patrolling the Persian Gulf, Indonesia and about twenty other places around the world. You’ve got your work cut out for you, Pete.
