Philadelphia reinstates its indoor mask mandate but Dem gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro calls it “counterproductive”

National File –
The City of Philadelphia announced on Monday that it will be reinstating its indoor mask mandate. As of April 18, masks will be required for entry to all “non-essential” Philadelphia buildings and venues.

A rise in COVID-19 cases prompted the new guidelines based on a model that would re-introduce mask mandates if case levels crossed a certain threshold. It is unclear whether the city’s vaccine passport system, which was also lifted earlier this year, will also be going back into effect.

There were an average of 142 new cases in Philadelphia in recent days, while 46 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, according to city officials. MORE

Pennsylvania Democrat running for governor opposes Philadelphia’s mask mandate

“Look, that’s a decision that the mayor made, I certainly didn’t make it,” Shapiro responded. “And I’m not a supporter of these mandates. What I’m a supporter of is educating and empowering the public so that they can make responsible decisions. But I think those kinds of mandates are counterproductive, particularly at this time.”

Spot on. after he wins in November he will ‘have no choice’ but to ‘reluctantly’ require masking to keep all Pennsylvanians ‘safe’ as the next variant makes its way through the population.

What i need to be kept safe from is people who use guns, knives, and baseball bats in a manner in which they were not intended.

…ESPECIALLY in Philly, a city SO dangerous that even noted gangsta rapper and acting thug Will Smith speaks of its dangers in his iconic “Fresh Prince” rap, and since we ALL know how hard Will Smith can slap a fellow comedian at a fancy dress ball, well if a thug like THAT is scared, we should be too…

  3. Shapiro is basically saying, “Yea these measures are counterproductive at this time because if they are reinstated now it hurts my chances to become Governor. The best time to reinstate these measures is after I’m sworn in as gov.”
