Portland’s Dem mayor, Ted Wheeler attempts to blame Trump for ongoing violence — then immediately gets fact checked

Blaze- Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, a Democrat, attempted to blame the federal government for enflaming tensions in Portland — but immediately got fact checked.

During a press conference with local media on Friday, Wheeler claimed that rhetoric from President Donald Trump and other top government officials, along with intervention from federal law enforcement officers, has enflamed violence in the City of Roses after, as the mayor claimed, local officials had quelled protesters.

“The feds came in, on the heels of some really inflammatory public messaging coming out of Washington, D.C., from the president directly, as well as the Department of Homeland Security, they blew the whole thing back up again,” Wheeler claimed.

“So, in one day, we saw the numbers escalate, we saw new people coming to Portland from out of state,” he added. “This whole situation is now blowing up as a result of the tactics being used by the federal government.”

But a reporter on the call pointed out that local officials have failed to stop the ongoing violence that has plagued Portland for nearly two months. MORE [Watch]

    …that’s another thing. Why doesn’t the Federal Government make blocking a Federal Highway a Federal crime enforceable by Federal Police in Federal Prisons?

    …they ARE National Defense Highways after all. Treat their trespass legally like trespassing on any OTHER military reservation…

  17. Last January the Oregonian online, OLive shut down reader comments in preparation for a “mostly peaceful” spring offensive by the Democrat Party. As did MyNortwest.com very shortly after the kickoff of mostly peaceful riot season.

    That was done to prevent the truth regarding how people actually feel and what they think of how Democrats are performing from coming out.

  18. BB — Geoff C. is from Portland and his mom still lives outside the city. The area that has been completely trashed (again! thanks, occupy) is the loveliest (or used to be) parts of the city. Occupy destroyed what is called “the Parks Blocks) and it had to be cleared out and replanted at enormous taxpayer expense. Now this! The bronzes — statues as well as public water fountains and plaques — are being destroyed. The one of the elk and its fountain was placed there before 1901. An elk! It’s heart-rending to see what the public officials in Portland have allowed to happen to a once-beautiful downtown core.

    Their reporting has been better than the reporting by The O. Here is an excerpt.

    The Oregonian compiled a list today of previous incidents where local and federal police appeared to coordinate their response to protesters. Such an effort undercuts Wheeler’s assertion that he doesn’t want federal officers deployed by President Donald Trump in this city—as do meetings between local cops and the feds.

  23. Wheeler’s wife threw him out? If true, can’t say I blame her, he’s so limp wristed and gay looking. Thought he had a nice place in NW Portland? Rumor mill said his place in the Pearl is where his boy friend lives. So maybe he’s doin’ the Pearl all the time now? Noticed he shaved. Not a bad idea considering that facial hair-do thingy made his oral cavity region look like a vulva.

  25. AA, when I was a kid my favorite uncle lived in Hermistin Oregon. He was a live stock broker so every visit was new pets. Every visit we use to drive to Portland and buy wool blankets and shirts from the Pendleton store. I still remember what a majestic place it is. To bad vermin have invaded it. Hopefully this is an educational experience for the voters. But I doubt it. It sad what these mutants have done to our home towns. Most of which can be argued unconstitutional. We need someone with enough balls to push back.

  26. Brad, since you’ve been in both Portland and Hermiston you clearly know the difference. It’s like Seattle and Ellensburg. Same planet but that is where the similarities end. I don’t see any way out of this mess without an outright victory over the bad guys. And it’s not an ideological victory either. It has to be an absolute beat down victory!

    Cause a distraction:

    1. Pick a fight with the nearest elected Republican.
    2. Blame them for everything.
    3. Make them fight back, who knows, they may say something stupid that will be
    the focus and take pressure off of you.
    4. If they successfully fight back, call them racist.
