POST-BREXIT BRITAIN WILL DROP RENEWABLE ENERGY COMMITMENTS

Powerline: The Telegraph reports that post-Brexit, Britain’s government intends to shelve renewable energy commitments that will dramatically increase energy costs to British consumers:

Britain is preparing to scrap EU green energy targets which will add more than £100 to the average energy bill as part of a bonfire of red tape after Brexit.

The UK is currently committed to getting 15 per cent of all energy from renewable sources such as wind and solar by 2020.

Ministers have long been critical of the targets because they exclude nuclear power, carbon capture or gains from energy efficiency.

The UK is currently on course to miss the target and incur millions of pounds in fines from the European Union.

Government sources told The Daily Telegraph that the target, under the EU Renewable Energy Directive, is likely to be scrapped after Brexit.

The “bonfire” is long overdue:

  1. Yes. If you don’t like the results of an election, do it over and over, again, until you get the “correct” result. We see it all the time here with tax issues and the “Repeal” of ObolaCare.
Similar to seeking the “auguries” of ancient times – keep sacrificing until the sign is propitious.

    izlamo delenda est …

  2. “Owen Paterson, a Conservative MP and former Environment Secretary, said: “It’s distorting the whole energy market. It’s like the Sherrif of Nottingham – it transfers money from my poorest constituents to my wealthiest constituents who are putting up pointless wind turbines heavily subsidized”.

    Gee, that sounds REAL familiar!

  3. They’re not telling the whole story. They’ve already lost billions by investing in “cheap, renewable energy” that will never deliver a return on investment. Somewhere along the line someone has to pay for that so called cheap electricity. They’re most likely paying for it in taxes and just don’t realize it.

  4. In England pensioners have died in their homes of hypothermia for years. Can’t afford heat.

As obamaa famously stated, under his cap & trade, “electricity rates would necessarily sky rocket”

  5. This is really good news. With Britain no longer footing the bill, the whole climate scam in Europe could collapse. With Trump doing his part here, we may finally see the end of the whole “Climate Change” religion.

  6. I still don’t see how the average price of energy is going up 100 pounds if Britain is again allowed to use coal, nuclear or gas to generate electricity. Unless somewhere in the article they touch on subsidies being eliminated and who is to say they will be upon BREXIT. I could see them staying in place (or being relaxed a bit) while the new electrical generation plants are built or de-mothballed.
