Pot Industry in California on Verge of Collapse

PJM: Potheads who thought government legalization of pot would lead to heaven on earth forgot about one tiny detail: getting the government involved in anything either makes it more expensive or ruins it completely.

In the case of legal pot in California, it’s both.

Many pot smokers in California probably wish they were still buying from the cartels, given how expensive their marijuana has become. And with the dearth of legal pot shops in much of the state, potheads are bypassing the high taxes and spotty service in the existing stores to keep buying on the street. more here

  1. In SayWA government taxes legal weed so it costs around 400.00 per ounce retail, about the cost of high grade ganja pre legalization. Black market high grade is selling for around 100.00 per ounce at this time. Thanks SayWA! You’ve brought the price on the black market down, incentivized growers through essentially eliminating enforcement activity against them and creating a circumstance where possession of any kind of weed is purely ambiguous resulting in no prosecutions of consequence. The cartels are delighted.

  2. There is only one reason that political leaders, mostly on the Left, are supporting legalization of this harmful substance, i.e. it is easier to extract honey from a beehive when the inhabitants are under the influence of smoke. And it is easier to extract freedoms from Americans when a substantial portion are stoned and docile, not to mention made more dependent on government by this “innocuous” drug.

  3. When you’re breaking into a new market, you have to undercut the competition. If you have deep pockets you can bankrupt them, then set your prices as high as you want. I’ve been watching the supermarkets around here do it for decades.

Only grade A morons or progressive dems (distinction without a difference) would use cannabis. I’ll never understand why that garbage is so popular.

Know anyone who has cancer and uses cannabis to ease their pain, and have an appetite? Know anyone who got cirrhosis of the liver smoking weed? Maybe you should give some a try, it might chill you out. Get the Indica strain, you’ll enjoy the mellow.

  5. Goldenfox, the weed store in town across from the auto glass shop changed my opinion.

I see old people in walkers and wheelchairs goin’ in there all the time. These people look fragile. Like….maybe not so many years left. I doubt if they’re smoking, but I’m sure they’re eating edible pot thingies. Whatever. The point is, no human with a heart would deny these people whatever it is they need to deal with their health issues.

Yeah, potheads still buy weed. So what. As pointed out above, they’re paying through the nose.

But I can’t rag on dope anymore. It actually helps some people.

  6. Does anybody know why they call it pot?

Seriously. Always wondered about that. It’s weed or dope where I come from.

I have my prejudices probably because I went to Schoo in S.F. and the pot smokers I knew were….not the winners in the game of life.

Further, pot smokers don’t drink in bars like normal people do. Since that’s how I made my living, I had no use for them….unless I was selling to them or robbing them.

But seeing a little bird like delicate ancient woman in a wheelchair who wants a gummie bear full of THC so she doesn’t gasp in pain every second….I dunno’. Where I live now has a lot of old retired people. Not old boomers. I mean old, old people.

Hard to tell them to F off. Give em’ what they need.

Also, had I known old people lived in such misery, I would have cornered that market decades ago.

  7. When I was a kid (73 years ago) a conservative, D, union president said 2 things which are eternal truths:

Govt can never solve our problems, GOVT IS OUR PROBLEM!
Big labor, big business: same coin 2 sides.

    This clearly demonstrates #1.

I voted for this man 9 times. Hw was both the best Cal Gov and the best American President!
