Daily Caller: President Donald Trump announced Friday plans to nominate Fraternal Order of Police President Chuck Canterbury to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Canterbury has been Fraternity Order of Police (FOP) president for 16 years, having previously spent 26 years in the Horry County, South Carolina, Police Department’s patrol, criminal and training divisions, according to the White House statement.
“Chuck is one of the most honorable people I’ve ever worked with and if he is selected, I can’t think of a finer person to take the position,” said Jonathan Thompson, executive director of the National Sheriffs’ Association. Thompson made the remarks to POLITICO in Nov. 2018, when Canterbury’s name was first floated for the position.
Trump worked closely with Canterbury on sentencing reform legislation passed Nov. 2018. The measure, which granted leniency on minimum sentencing rules for some drug offenses and expanded rehabilitation programs, enjoyed rare bipartisan support and was backed by the ACLU, according to Politico.
Canterbury has been vocal in his Second Amendment support, testifying July 2009 before the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who had worked closely with police as a Manhattan prosecutor early in her career:
“I want no mistake to be made,” Canterbury testified. “I take a back seat to no one in my reverence for the Second Amendment. In fact, if I thought that Judge Sotomayor’s presence on the court posed a threat to my Second Amendment right, I would not be supporting her here today.” read more

He may be as good a man as is said but supporting Sotomayor doesn’t demonstrate sound judgement to me. Anyone who knows of the bullshit she pulled as a judge in Connecticut knows what I mean.

Whilst I think “Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms” would make a great convenience store, the BATFE is just another aconstitutional federal government alphabet organization that should be disbanded.

The BATFE in my view attracts a__holes as members of the type that get off on authority granted by a uniform. IOW the evil versions of Barney Fife, over anxious to load their bullets and shoot several someones. Violent abusers of power
Move the tax duties to the IRS. Move the criminal investigations to the FBI. Then disband. Give him that mandate Mr. Trump.

Remember the man shot in the early ’70s while climbing out of his bathtub and armed with a replica blackpowder revolver, hoping to defend his pregnant wife when the BATF kicked down his door with no announcement or ID? I should add that while I was still employed and running judge schools, we had a high level female BATF officer come out to address federal gun laws vis a vis State legal protections of firearms owners. She openly mocked the Second Amendment and those of us who thought it meant anything in comparison to federal diktat. She misread us all – learned and was shocked that she and her message were not well received. Brought her female “assistant” out with her at our expense too, a woman we never saw except in brief passing…

The BATFE should not exist at all. They should be out charging and prosecuting politicians trying to take our 2nd Amendment rights away, not making it hard for use to exercise them, and that’s all they do. Try calling their local office and ask about getting a federal firearms license to sell guns, and see what a hard time they give you. (Assholes!)
They need to disband the BATFAGS.
