ONN:
Montana lawmakers are trying to straighten out a mess caused by a court ruling on doctor-assisted suicide.
A lawsuit was filed by a man with a terminal illness to legalize doctor-assisted suicide. He died of natural causes but the case continued, and then the Montana Supreme Court in 2009 ruled on it and it was perceived by the media as legalization.
Despite the misconceptions, that is not true according to Lianna Karlin of Right to Life of Montana, so lawmakers want to make it clear.
only a lawyer could write something as convoluted (& weaselly) as that
Why are those in favor of doctor assisted suicide in hospitals opposed to using pharmaceuticals for carrying out death sentences in prisons?
@judgeroybean – “Why are those in favor of doctor assisted suicide in hospitals…”
My guess it’s the same type of doctor that would perform an abortion just before a live birth. You know, like what’s been legalized in NY and RI.
Calling Dr. Mengele, line 2…Dr. Mengele, line 2…
I have mixed feelings about this.
Yesterday, I had a friend, not real close, but we knew each other, take his life with a shotgun. He had recently been given a very bad, and short, prognosis for his advancing liver cancer, and he also had the beginnings of dementia. He just didn’t want to go on, and was in perpetual, excruciating pain. I feel badly that nothing could be done to help him, but there just wasn’t anything. And he had been told so. So he made that choice. He went outside and did it. The only thing I could say, is that I wish he had at least had the availability of something like fentanyl, to have used.
His wife, who also has dementia, though more advanced, will hopefully soon forget what happened.
Toby M,
My sympathies to your friend’s family. Hard and difficult decision. There but for the Grace of God…….
