I do think he should have mentioned that the reason many early Americans drank, was because fresh water sources weren’t safe. Until modern sanitation cleaned up the drinking water it was safer to drink alcohol or to mix it into your cup of water.

was an important way of storing the food as calories in the times when refridgeration was controlled by the seasons or lake/pond ice transported to ice houses and stored for later use.
