PM: An Oregon high school diploma does not guarantee that students who earned it can read, write or do math at a high school level.
Governor Kate Brown dropped the requirement that students demonstrate they have achieved those essential skills by signing Senate Bill 744 into law. She declined again Friday to comment on why she supported suspending the proficiency requirements, reported OregonLive.
The bill was not entered into the legislative database until July 29, a departure from the standard practice of updating the public database the same day a bill is signed. Charles Boyle, the governor’s deputy communications director, said the governor’s staff told legislative staff the same day the governor signed the bill.
Boyle said in an emailed statement that suspending the reading, writing and math proficiency requirements will benefit “Oregon’s Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of colour.” MORE

Relax. They’re still going to test the kids. Starting next year, every Oregon high school senior will have to pass a Social Media Proficiency test in order to graduate.

Of course what this means, no reputable university will accept students from Oregon, since the academic transcript will be meaningless. Why should a college or university accept students who they already know are going to flunk out after a semester or two?
Uhh isn’t funding determined by proficiency of students? It’s more of a report card for the teachers than the students. Teachers can now get increases in salary for a job they don’t have to do.
I wish I could buy stock in private schools in Oregon. This falls on the heels of SAT tests being dumbed-down again.

It was DEMOCRATS who stood in the school house doors in the 1960’s. To hear them tell it that was then and this is now and they are no longer the Party of the KKK. However you slice it Democrats are opposed to black Americans being educated. Yesterday it was by blatantly and forcibly barring black children from even entering the building, in the intervening years they have figured out that the best way to keep “their niggers” uneducated and unable to escape the Democrat plantation is a bit more stealthy, but anyone who has been paying attention knows what their motivation is.
We were just discussing how my high school actually had “Driver Education” and cleverly made ‘Government & Economics’ a pre-requisite to DE.
We had a lot better drivers then, as well as a citizenry that actually knew about the Constitution & how government & the economy work.
The big takeaway is, how do you measure the effectiveness of a teachers performance?

What happens when all the OTHER certificates mean nothing? some easy examples that matter would be: Dr of medicine, RN nurses, Plumber + electrician licenses, structural architectural registration testing? Many many more. I don’t care about lawyer exams or bar tending or massage or haircut junk. How about drivers licenses? Those already mean nothing here in Las Vegas. It sure looks as if the standard policy is to hand them out to any illegal that shows up in our DMV-NV.
