WT: A record 4,279 people renounced their U.S. citizenship or long-term residency in 2015, according to new data released by the Treasury Department.

Last year was the third year in a row that renunciations have increased to record levels and the number of people dropping their U.S. citizenship increased by over 1,000 since 2014, according to the data.

“An increasing number of Americans appear to believe that having a U.S. passport of long-term residency isn’t worth the hassle and cost of complying with U.S. tax laws,” Andrew Mitchel, an international lawyer in Centerbook Conn., who tallies and tracks the data told the Wall Street Journal.   more

  1. “An increasing number of Americans appear to believe that having a U.S. passport of long-term residency isn’t worth the hassle and cost of complying with U.S. tax laws,”

I’m sure having Barack Insane Obama as POTUS doesn’t play into this equation. crushing sarc/off

  2. I’m pretty sure the knee-pad media told me in 2008 that Gay Barry would usher in a new era of American excellence. I guess the Common Core definition of excellence means dropping the bar on the floor. Unfortunately, the Lo-Fo’s still trip over it when reaching for the brass ring…but especially when walking into the voting booth.

  3. Typical. The ones leaving pay taxes, while the imports being brought in will siphon benefits and anything else not bolted down. The ones leaving are contributors to society, the ones coming in are parasites on any society. Am I the only one thinking this is fucked up?
