PML: Faced with rising crime and a truncated police force, officials in Minneapolis, Minn., are looking to bring on additional law enforcement personnel to help protect the city’s residents and respond to escalating numbers of violent 911 calls.
The added officers, which would come from the neighboring Hennepin County Sheriff’s office and the Metro Transit Police, would join the city’s Joint Enforcement Teams starting on Nov. 15 and continue through the end of the year. Should officials approve the proposal, the additional services would cost Minneapolis just under $497,000—an expenditure that be covered by the city’s contingency fund.
Linea Palmisano, a Council Member in Minneapolis, told the Star Tribune that financial limitations might hamper the city’s efforts to man the police department going forward.
“We’re barely able to cover the shifts that we have,” Palmisano said. “We really can’t allocate additional police officers for on-duty shifts.” more

Soooo…Minneapolis fires or drives-off their own officers and then wants to take officers/deputies from other communities and make them help fill the vacancies in Minneapolis instead of patrolling their own communities who still support and finance police departments? The sheriffs should tell Minneapolis to pound sand.

If I was a veteran LEO asked to work for MPD. I’d demand pay 25% higher than scale, and that I’d only consider taking the job after at least 80% of the city council is replaced by sane people with common sense wisdom. Otherwise, no thanks, they could continue to self destruct.

First, apologize to your community, then resign, PERIOD. New mayor and council should humbly apologize to police department. Hiring new police in a city that is famous for its incompetent and hypocritical administration will be difficult. The politically correct surrender monkeys that chose surrender to the mob demands, and believe law enforcement is a joke to the city.
They will either have to pay seriously to get good cops to come to the clown show or they will get rookies or the kind of cops that should not be in law enforcement.
They did this to themselves because of their fear and stupidity.
