EnVolve:The nation’s oldest gun manufacturer, Remington Firearms, announced Nov. 8 that it will move its global headquarters to LaGrange, Georgia and also build a high-tech manufacturing plant and a research-and-development center there, according to a press release.
Remington Firearms (now RemArms due to a 2020 acquisition) will leave Ilion, New York—the company’s home for 205 years since Eliphalet Remington established the business in 1816—because of the state’s unfriendly firearm laws and poor business climate, Legal Insurrection reported.
“We are very excited to come to Georgia, a state that not only welcomes business but enthusiastically supports and welcomes companies in the firearms industry,” said Ken D’Arcy, RemArms CEO.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican, said that RemArms will contribute to the state’s economic success.
“The state’s firearms industry is responsible for thousands of Georgia jobs and millions of dollars of investment in our communities,” Kemp said. more
What took you so long?
I’m lucky.
All my remingtons are over 25 years old.
But it is nice to see them move to a freer state. Lets hope they improve the quality, materials, & workmanship.
I have a mid 70’s 760 gamemaster 30-06. Pumps smooth as silk and is extremely accurate. I also have an early 70’s 870 12 gage that was given to me by a widow who wanted it out of her house after her husband died. I don’t think it was ever fired.
I ♥ my 870.
I guess my Rem 700 in .308 is about 25 years old, too. It was a fine rifle out of the box, but I did some extensive trigger work to it, and it’s my second best rifle to my Enfield No. 4… which I did extensive work to that trigger and sear, too.
I lost both of them in the river just today. Bummer.
Tikka is really NICE!
@Erik.
Bummer dude.
They’ll wish they went somewhere else in a few years
My Enfield was a 1943, 2 groove barrel, from the
ROF Fazakerley. Stupid accurate.
But this is about Remingtons. My only forays are the 700, and a 12 gauge. Both of them are excellent.
The only problem with the 12 gauge is the recoil on 3 inch turkey shells… fook! But that’s my fault. I pull the shotgun into my shoulder with both hands and the shuck action unlocks from the recoil and me pulling back on the fore-end.
Again, that’s not Remington’s fault.
We have a stack of 788s and 580 & 582 rifles. My favorite is a 22-250 in an MPI stock, 26″ Lilja barrel and Canjar trigger.
I have a project in mind for a factory walnut stocked 580 that’s been sitting here. The kids won’t miss it when I cobble it up, they have new Ruger 3114s.
22 in PacNor in 17 Pee Wee, I’m going to add a recoil lug and put a Timney 788 trigger in it.

Me thinks north of 3,800 FPS with 20 grain bullet is overly optimistic, but we are getting 3,650 with our 17 Hornets and PO Ackley said the Pee Wee was able to out distance the Hornet 17, and the action is too short for the Hornet and the bolt head too small for the 17 Mashburn Bee or I would go that route.
Just got to find the time to make that little four and a half pound chuck blaster for the kids. We are just finishing a second Contender carbine in 17 Hornet for daughter #2 and this will be for my son.
Other than the 788/580 series my only experience with Remington products was an XP in 223 I stupidly parted with and a 37 target rifle that also went bye bye. I prefer Model 70s and CZ 257s for my centerfire bolt guns
FWIW, if you have kids, the Ruger 3114 is the real deal. The genuine article. Hard as hell to locate, but Sportsman’s Warehouse & Sheels get them in fairly regularly.
You just pull the rear sling swivel to change out stock modules. It’s a handy little unit. I stumbled on a used man size high comb module for $5 and played with one of the kids’ guns myself for a while.
oops Ruger 31114
Rumor spreadin’ ’round in that Georgia town
About that plant outside La Grange
And you know what I’m talkin’ about
Just let me know if you wanna go
To that plant out by the range
They gotta lotta nice guns
Have mercy
A-haw haw haw-haw
Heh, a-haw haw haw
apologies to Billy, DustyRIP and Frank
Personally, I think they moved about 200 miles too far south. But I may be biased.
My dad was given a short barreled Remington 308 in exchange by one of his younger customers back in 1968 because the young man was drafted and owed my dad some money for repairs on his car. We still have that 308, I’ve used it for deer hunting years ago and my son currently has it and uses it.
Lots of good people in New York will be hurt by this. New York City liberal asshats are responsible the anti gun BS. Outside NYC people are just people. My guess anyway.
I still have the 870 that hung over my bed as a toddler. My dad always took trips out west to bird hunt, and we would have to look out for pellets on Thanksgiving dinner. Great memories; Welcome to GA Remington!
