Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) backs ending crude export ban

WashingtonExaminer: House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton publicly endorsed crude oil exports for the first time Tuesday, adding another influential lawmaker to a growing list who want to end the 40-year-old ban.

“Oil exports can be a win for the American people and a win for our allies,” the Michigan Republican said at a committee hearing, later adding, “The case for creating more jobs by expanding the market for American oil is a key reason why oil exports should be on this committee’s agenda this year.”

Many Republicans are skittish about ending the export restrictions for fear of being blamed by voters if gasoline prices rise. Upton had previously been open to the idea of discussing oil export legislation, but hadn’t come down on where he stood. more here
