There are some very good and deserving bishops and cardinals, but they are in the minority.

…no one is due respect. A person may be due deference because of their station or title, but continuing to get that deference is contingent on EARNING respect, which not everyone is worthy of.
Respect is never given, always earned.
And the leader who doesnt prove himself worthy of that respect or REMAIN worthy of respect even if he EARNS it WILL be ignored and beclowed and bypassed by those under him no matter what, and no amount of angry orders or bullying directives is going to change that.
The most that enforcing an undue respect may do is drive the GOOD people, the ones that can florish and contribute anywhere, out of your organization. The idiots and yes-men and blame shifters will stay, but obeisance is not productivity and your organization will fail in a sea of synchophants.
Or worse, people will go into automoton mode and follow orders to the LETTER, without actually making any adjustments based on their knowledge and experience whatsover or doing anything to make their heavy-handed boss’s demands actually WORK even if they KNOW better.
It is said that the WORST thing a seargeant can do to a general is EXACTLY what he’s told.
And the results of precisely following orders of people who do not deserve respect can result in the death of a project, the death of an organization, the actual death of people, and even the death of nations.

The Vatican needs a dose of DOGE and to enforce the law (God’s law) among their own. There are some very good men in the clergy but the hierarchy tends to elevate those who protect the system rather than those who protect the vulnerable.
