Report: First victim of CNN layoffs revealed to be Chris Wallace, who insisted he was leaving to ‘pursue podcasts’

DMUK:

CNN anchor Chris Wallace was the first network star given the boot as the channel faces a staffing bloodbath in the face of cratering ratings.

Puck News reported that Wallace, who was paid $7 million a year, was told his two shows on the network were being axed by CEO Mark Thompson.

He was told he could stay on in a greatly-reduced role as an analyst on a far smaller salary, but decided not to, according to journalist Dylan Byers.

Wallace, a former Fox News star, ended up quitting and insisted his decision was entirely his own.

He now claims to be pursuing a career in ‘streaming or podcasting,’ but does not appear to have a new job lined up.

The weekly interview series Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace and Saturday morning discussion panel The Chris Wallace Show were on the chopping block when he quit.

Wallace maintains he was never discussing his options because he’d already decided to leave. Thompson’s decision had reportedly been relayed to Wallace’s agent.

‘It doesn’t matter what was or wasn’t said in that meeting because I had already decided with my wife six months ago to leave CNN,’ Wallace told Puck.  more

  1. CNN should have sent him on location to Pyongyang and fired him there after canceling and getting a refund on his return airline ticket and informing the issuing bank that “somebody” was making fraudulent charges on Chrissie’s CNN expenses credit card.

  2. He calls himself a journalist and CNN was paying him 7 million a year.

  3. The idiot set both ends of the bridge on fire and he now stands in the middle with time to think.
You’re beyond retirement age and your job was dirty Chris. Time to kick back, relax and disappear.

  4. He is full of shit, and nobody knows that better than him. He can’t make it a free market, and he knows it. He has been protected from competition his entire career. To use their own phrase, The whole world is watching (on Twitter, which you have absolutely no control over) and Trump will communicate to the American people your efforts to control the flow of information in terms even the most intellectually challenged can appreciate and understand. It’s over, learn to code… or something useful.

  5. Duh. His contract was up for renewal. With CNN’s dismal ratings, did anyone think they were going to renew his contract? Wallace is risk-averse and yet he wanted everyone to think he was going to reinvent himself as a podcaster. Can you think of anyone who could possibly be more boring? Ok, yeah there are several, but you get the point.

  6. He can’t stop lying even when pushed out the door – by CNN no less! – the scummiest network on Earth.

    That’s got to smart.

Thrown out of a hobo camp because he stinks!
