Reuters: OK fine, it doesn’t look like a recession is coming

They tried their best with their headline and lead to make it sound like bad economic news. Consumer spending inched up only a little (and of course, “less than expected”), and business investment “remains weak.”

Usually this is where the media informs us we’re looking at a looming recession that will destroy all jobs, wipe out everyone’s savings and, of course, be Donald Trump’s fault.

But the media have been crying that wolf for months, and they keep getting slapped down by actual economic data that shows the fundamentals of the economy remain strong. I guess Reuters was getting tired of looking silly, and has given up the looming recession ghost: more

  1. Not surprising until this tariff business is settled.
    China can’t outwait us; hopefully they’ll be realizing that before it’s too late.
    At some point, the effort of saving face turns into falling on it.
