Rhode Island: Gov. McKee(D) signs bill cracking down on solar retailers

(The Center Square) — Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee has set new restrictions on retail solar businesses amid claims that they use deceptive practices to lure energy consumers into costly contracts.

McKee signed into law a bill on Wednesday that requires residential solar companies to register annually with the state Department of Business Regulation, which would have the authority to investigate complaints and impose administrative fines, revoke registrations and order violators to cease and desist.

Companies would be required to conduct criminal background checks on “principal” sales representatives and follow local restrictions on door-to-door sales and federal telemarketing rules. more

  1. Living east of Phoenix we were overwhelmed with nonstop Solar proposals. Dirty bastards rang the doorbell 14 hours a day, filled the mailbox with their shit, clogged our phones, overwhelmed our emails, and filled our porches with ads. Our 300+ development had maybe 16-18 solar systems. NONE of them, after two years, would defend their decisions to buy into solar. Told every one of those clueless dipshit salesmen that if solar penciled out we’d be bugging the living shit out of them instead of them bugging the living shit out of us! Turns out most solar contractors go broke within two years, leaving gullible virtue signalers with 30K debts, inoperative solar systems, and no warranty service! Oh, one more thing: good luck trying to sell your house with solar!
