Rhode Island: North Kingstown VFW commander resigns amid allegations that she faked service

Providence Journal: The commander of North Kingstown’s VFW Post 152 has resigned amid allegations that she lied about serving in the Marine Corps and earning a Purple Heart.

Sarah Cavanaugh, who had served in the role since October 2020, began drawing scrutiny after she claimed to be fighting Stage IV lung cancer. HunterSeven Foundation, a Providence-based veterans organization with a national profile, is now refunding donations that it collected after sharing her story on Instagram.

In a story headlined, “Veterans donated to a woman who said she was a Marine combat veteran dying of cancer. It was a lie,” the military and veterans’ publication Task & Purpose reported on Tuesday that Cavanaugh was not listed in any award databases for the Purple Heart or Bronze Star, and that the Marine Corps does not have any records for a “Sarah Cavanaugh.” MORE

  1. Lots of that going on, we had a commie try to enter the school board by attempting to join the Republican party. They threw him out. Keep a watchful eye locally.

  2. Pathological liars are truly demented and evil people. Society functions best when you can take people on their word with reasonable safety. Pathological liars undermine that, making everything more difficult because if you’ve ever dealt with one, then you’ll never give anyone the benefit of the doubt again.

And, sadly, pathological liars are a cancer that has fully metastasized in our society. Just look who is running things.
